I just LOOOOOOVVVEEEEEEE how this really looks like the drawing I did a couple years ago of Hiei x Botan. (You can find it in my scraps gallery.)

The unique coloring of the outline really catches one's attention not to mention it really brings out the characters
But my favorite part are their facial reactions. The smiles on both of their faces are infectious -- now, I'm even smiling!

I guess you're right. I think the background is kinda....flashy? It relaly makes me myself stop and look.
When I was coloring the background I was originally going to go with an all cloud background, but I though it didn't "bring the picture to life" the way I wanted it. That's when I referred back to the one-shot i wrote to go with this. That's when i decided on the wall...tree...thing behind Hiei. (lol)
I tihnk the clothes were the easiest to color to be honest. lol The skin color is what threw me through a loop. I just couldn't get their skin tone right which I found increasingly annoying. I finally got it though! Or tried to at least...afte rlike what felt like a million tries. 
lol. The smile seemed almost fitting I suppose. i couldn't help but have it.
Anyways, i'm really glad ytou like it.

Skin tone sometimes irritates me too. I just use my Color Selector on a screen shot when I don't have the patience to try and find the right color.
I think you're much better at drawing school skirts than I am. If I draw too many, I get dizzy

lol. Yeah, the color selector makes getting the skin tone easier. But I found that it works best with .gif images. Though maybe it's just me. lol
lol, I actually only recently learned the best way to draw skirts. i found that if you make the layers of the skirt bigger it looks better. I've already decided that if you give each of the layers/folds (whatever) a small wave it looks better to. Gives it a more...realistic looks to it I guess. lol.
