[ History ]
Living in Seattle for all her life, Mel lived fairly comfortably. With parents who moved from Vietnam and two older brothers, there wasn't too much she ever had to worry about. Her parents were strict and her brothers were prestigious, there was a lot for Mel to live up to, while her childhood was stressful with hardly any free time, she never particularly struggled. Despite that there was a moderate amount of bullying, of course there would be if when she is both socially awkward and constantly studious. Her sudden interest in goth culture didn't help the situation at all either and the constant ridicule made her dive deeper into this interest.

The day she realized her mutation was a day she still remembers vividly. She was in the bathroom with girls mocking her existence and being backed into a wall-- until she just disappeared. At least that's what the other girls thought, rather she had morphed formed herself into a shadow against the wall. While she was first scared, soon it brought her comfort. It was her place to be without having to worry about bullied..she didn't have to worry about social interaction in general. While it could get lonely, loneliness was more tolerable than being made fun of. At first it was simply moving into the shadows between class changes or lunch, but soon it evolved into staying as a shadow, even during classes. It wasn't long before someone noticed she wasn't there.

The strict parents getting wind of the situation could hardly believe what they heard. Their previously diligent daughter becoming a delinquent. Not understanding the situation, the parents gave her punishments, grounding her or taking away the things she enjoyed. This only caused her to stay as a shadow both in school and at home. It became difficult for her to come out of it, both mentally and physically. It only took time and a missing persons report for her to have an eventual breakdown, her family finally understanding the gravity of the situation. Getting wind of her school life and mutation, they mutually decided that Xavier Institute would probably be the best place of her, hone her abilities and hopefully be a more positive environment.
