I'm honestly not one to categorize characters,
but honestly, Anders is the most misunderstood character of the entire Dragon age series, not gonna lie

I always think of Tool's song "Parabola" when I see Anders and Justice. It fits them so well, in my opinion.

I have mixed feelings about Anders as a character. On the one hand, he used to be a really funny and interesting guy and I honestly understand and feel sorry for a lot of the pain he has been through. But at the same time, I get so angry at him for what he did to the Kirkwall chantry. I believe despite the fact that I agree with a lot of his principles, his methods I sternly disagree with. I believe that despite the fact that the Grand Cleric and the chantry had some involvement in part of the troubles plauging Kirkwall and the gallows, I don't believe killing her and everyone in the chantry was necessary and certainly (in my opinion), it was morally reprehensible. I might be less inclined to chose to kill him in the end of my games if he had blown up, say, the Templar headquarters, but even then I'd probably chew him out for letting justice get the better of him. (I rival him even as a blatantly pro-mage character, though it does require some effort to prevent him from thinking I'm the maker's gift to mages.)
I think this piece embodies Anders as an intriguing, yet terrifying character, an embodiment of what can happen if you do not temper yourself in the face of injustice and ignore the needs of the people you are trying to protect. But that's just my interpretation.Β

I think he's the biggest asshole in the series. I've let him live, because he created the mess, so it was right for him to help me solve it (plus he was my primary mage), but I hate that after his "I'm sorry I didn't tell you anything. Now I know I could have trusted you" speach (something like that if I remember right) there wasn't an option saying "I've let you live to help me solve this thing. After we're done, you may go, if I see you again, I'll kill you" - because basically, he endangered the life of my sister and that's just something you don't forgive and if I didn't need his help, I would have killed him on the spot.

Understandable. I was a spirit healer mage, so basically I filled whatever role Anders would have done in my party (although I was more of a mix of healing/offensive spells). So, there wasn't really any motivation to keep him alive from that standpoint. I did let him live on one playthrough because I wanted him to suffer with the mess he made. But I didn't let him come with me. When I met him at the gallows I basically told him to GTFO.
But, having seen Bethany and what happens to her if you leave her behind in Kirkwall, I think that is another reason to be angry with him.

I did leave her behind and I did tell him to GTFO, but I still feel like it wasn't enough :-D And since he was dating my character (well, I WAS considering becoming a lesbian, since I didn't like Anders before, but decided against it and still regret it a bit) it was even worse. He asked his girlfriend to help him and trust him and he just blew it.Β But they wrote him well, I was never so disapointed and disgusted in any character.Β And I didn't even care much about the guy.

I really think if Justice hadn't merged with Anders, half the problems in Dragon Age: Inquisition would be nonexistant.

He's able to be with male or female Hawke.
However if your Hawke is male, Anders will say that Karl was his "first" and that's just an extra piece of dialogue.
