Description
This piece was something that I have wanted to do for a while now. Up to this point I've always wanted to draw Dick and Alex's first encounter but had never gotten around to actually doing it. This will probably be one of my last pieces before I head back into the commissions that I have since I know people are waiting patiently.

Anyway the pose and idea for this piece was inspired by a screenshot of Nightwing and Batgirl. I kept Nightwing mostly the same but obviously changed Batgirl. I did decide to keep her face more rounded though since Alex is supposed to be younger here than I normally draw her. I also didn't draw any added graphics of injuries and tears, just minor dirt.

I am also working on the full detailed story line of Shadow in this universe but for now I am just writing the bit that goes with the piece featured above!

Story:
  Alex was in over her head, again. This time though she truly underestimated her enemies. As per her normal routine, Alex found out about a medium size gang that was terrorising the streets of the west end of Stormdenn. She decided to knock the gang down a few pegs and started a nightly patrol around, taking out members of the gang here and there.
  Just like when dealing with any criminal Alex was always careful to keep her hood up and wings concealed, making sure that the criminals wouldn't have a good view of her and be able to describe her. She would then finish the job by leaving the bad guys secured for the cops to pick up. She was always gone before they got there. Occasionally she'd call the cops on a nearby pay phone or get a random civilian to do it but either way the cops would come by and pick them up and the criminals whether petty thieves, muggers or murdering gang members were locked up.
Now normally Alex would deal with a few criminals and be out of there before anyone could realise what was going on and find her. This time though, she decided to stay a bit longer figuring that with other cities with higher crime levels being nearby(Gotham and Blud'Haven) she wouldn't be noticed as much by either cops or criminals. However she was wrong the gang didn't take lightly to someone fooling with their men. They decided to set an ambush for the mystery hero.
But the criminals weren't the only ones that noticed. Batman and Nightwing both heard the rippling news. Batman had his hands full in Gotham at the time but Nightwing decided to check out the gossip and did his next patrol in Stormdenn.

That night Alex stalked two members of the gang through the streets until they were under an underpass which she decided produced enough concealment. She then crept out from the shadows behind the men preparing to land her first strike when a deep voice spoke up behind her, “Hola chica.” The guys in front of her turned around with smirks on their faces. She slowly stood up and turned around. A man of about 6 feet, with a dark complexion, dark brown hair and moustache stood there. She recognised the one who spoke as Raoul, head boss of the gang. She'd heard rumours of him, he was merciless and ruthless. Took no prisoners but rarely showed up to do the dirty work himself. She glared at him. "You look surprised, little one. You know I don't take kindly to people beating up my men."
  Alex quickly studied the scene, three guys, this was going to be easy even with Raoul himself. She sprung into action, moving quickly toward the two men behind her. She slammed into the shorter one knocking him straight into a lamp post. Pushing off she launched toward the tall one ducking to avoid a punch and swiping him off his feet. Before he even hit the ground she turned and charged for Raoul.
Right before she reached him someone slammed into her from the right and she went flying into a car. Shaking her head she started to get up when she heard a CLICK. She looked up to the barrel of a gun right in her face. Shit, she thought, that is going to be a problem. Alex heard vehicles approaching and thought for a second that the gang would take off, but was disappointed when the 2 vehicles came to a stop. Five men piled out of each vehicle creating a semi circle around her and Raoul. A couple of men pulled out knives and more guns aiming them at her. 'This is not going well' she thought to herself.
Raoul starts to chuckle. He lowers the gun slightly from in front of her face, "Tut, tut, we don't take kindly to trespassers. Do we muchachos?" Raoul asks and the men nod and murmur their agreement. He turns to address Alex proudly announcing, “I am Raoul, the leader of the Diablo Despreciables!" When Alex shows no reaction to his announcement Raoul frowns and crouches done in front of Alex. He studies her for a second, then smiles, "Oh yes! The contractor will be happy when he hears about this!" he says as he stands and turns to one of his men "Call him and let him know what we have."
'This whole thing was a trap,' thought Alex, 'But who is this contractor? How can they know who she is? Do they know? And what should she do now? They had her surrounded, but there was no way she was going down without a fight.' that much she knew.
    “You look surprised, chica? Well let me explain what has happened.” Raoul started to boast about how smart he is and how he masterfully planned the ambush. He turned away from Alex to face his men, making a big show. 'Now's my chance' thought Alex and she launched toward Raoul and knocking the gun out of his hand. Using the momentum she continued toward another member hoping to be able to take down as many guys as possible before they took her down. She heard shots going off and hoped to god that she wouldn’t be hit."IT'S RUDE INTERRUPT WHEN SOMEONE IS TALKING!!" yelled Raoul as he regained his gun and started shooting at Alex. As she kept beating as many guys as she could, she realised that the shots weren't all being directed at her anymore. She glanced around and saw a guy fighting alongside her. He was tall and muscular, with dark hair that hung past his shoulders in a mullet type hairstyle. He wore a black unitard and covering his eyes he wore a black triangular domino mask. The chest area of his uniform had a blue bird with its wings expanded and he carried a pair of escrimia sticks.
  Raoul saw that Alex wasn’t focused, aimed his gun and took a hasty shot toward her, Nightwing noticed too late and yelled at the young woman to watch out. As she turned to look at him the shot clipped her in the right shoulder. The shot hurt like a son of a gun but Alex didn't let it faze her and she ran straight for Raoul, knocking him down again.
  Suddenly the sound of sirens filled the air and one by one the men started to retreat into the darkness. Alex turned to the hero. She definitely wanted nothing to do with him. "Are you ok?" asked the Nightwing noticing many small lacerations from the goon's knives as well as the more pressing issue of the gun shot wound. Alex looked at him and scowled. She had to get out of there, she had to deal with her injuries. She brushed past him and moved toward the nearest alley, "Hey!" Nightwing called and lightly grabbed her left arm.
"I didn't need your help, nor did I ask for it." Alex snapped turning toward him.
"Geez lady, are you always this ungrateful?"
Alex glared at him then quickly glanced down at his chest and again noticed the blue bird, "Just stay out of my way bird boy." she said poking him in the chest and pulling her arm out of his grasp.
