Description And oh goody it's yet another dragon. I tried something a little funky with the wings but I don't think it's a design I'll stick to. There's plenty of subtle shading on the reds on the original but the scanner ate them. I don't know why I bother sometimes

I've been getting pissed off with myself lately - I can't seem to get right the things I actually want to draw, so I'm churning out dragons instead. Not that I don't like drawing dragons, it's just I've other ideas in my head but they're stuck there because I can't get them down on paper right *goes away to sulk*

Hey, I already advised this one to one person, so I'll advise to you:
-Don't always- put the idea on the paper, -create- the idea on the paper, not in your head.
But if you want to get something out of your head, then you must learn to do so. It's hard, but you'll manage as, somewhat, I did.

Thanks for the advice My usual way of working is to have a vague idea, put pencil to paper and let the picture 'grow' itself. Often I get something completely different from what I was thinking of and usually I'm happy with that. It's just the rare occasions when I want to draw something specific - sometimes it works out when I try to draw it but lately it doesn't seem to be doing so.

Ah, so then you must learn how to improvise, or redraw the details or the whole pic until you reach what you really want. I'm not a professional, but I usually improivise while I draw and add details within the time I sketch a picture.
Second advise: learn to improvise at any time. Wronng line? Think differently and use the line as a figure of the composition or a new object in the artwork. ^^.

Cheers! I fear I'm still rather miffed with my scanner on this - spent a good while colouring it only to have that time wasted!

Heck, no need to apologise. I'm very sporadic with my online time too 'cos of my wrist and working on non-computer stuff.

Another great dragon! Love the reds. And, hey--we all get in artistic funks...at least your still producing. I'm sure you'll work thought it, and in no time you'll be drawing all kinds of wonderful stuff. And, if this is the quality you turn out when things aren't going right, I'd say that you'll be fine.

This is true - although they pass, art ruts are still bloody annoying whilst they're going on! I think I'm crawling out of mine - after the con' on Saturday I'm feeling really inspired to get cracking with the next section of my comic.

Very true...they are annoying. Just like writer's block. Well, glad to hear that you're climing out of yours!

I know how you feel! I usually have something just itching at my brain and my hand just doesn't want to co-operate!

As a main note, this dragon looks as if its better suited to the high mountains by the way you decided to draw its wings. A new technique for ya that worked out well

Good to know I'm not alone in my suffering

That's a thought. Good for climbing, I suppose. Not sure if I want to try drawing them outstretched though - don't know if they'll look right.

Ta! Y'know the reaction to the hands has been quite surprising - I thought folks wouldn't like them much since it's kind of a weird way I've drawn them, but it's been really great that people are liking the design

Thanks! I think he needs a background (or maybe I'm just growing allergic to white space) but I just know I'll never get around to drawing one!).
