Description
From the Journals of Clover the Scholar:
My mentor has changed.
No longer is he boisterous and jolly, as I had always known him, but is now cold and distant, and far more pensive. Nonetheless, he is equally confounding, only now in a more... solemn manner.
He travels more frequently these days, going further and further beyond the realm than ever before. Where he goes, however, he does not tell me. The Princess and the others complain often of his absence- whenever his guidance is needed, he is not to be found. I have tried to inquire upon his travels, but he spurns my attempts at conversation. The Little Ones, too, miss him dearly, and I share their sentiment, though I worry for other reasons.
I fear dark thoughts plague him.

Finally getting into the deeper end of ancient Equestrian lore for Harmonyverse! Well, actually... this is like a good jump into a small puddle, really.
*Please note: I am aware Starswirl was revealed in the recent MLP season- however! I will NOT be using that version of him for Harmonyverse, neither will the season finale be canon whatsoever in the Harmonyverse story! Starswirl plays a crucial part in events to follow, and I had already built so much around my particular version of him that the canon!Starswirl would simply mean I'd have to throw Harmonyverse out the window in its entirety. *
Starswirl has always been an interesting figure to me- from his grand legacy to his sudden disappearance in history. Equally fascinating to me was the relationship he had with his faithful apprentice, Clover Shine, dubbed Clover the Clever. In Harmonyverse canon, after Celestia and Luna were blessed upon ponykind , Starswirl begins to change. He grows far more distant and unsociable, much to the worry of Clover, and then, suddenly, takes off from Equestria, leaving Clover in his stead as Grand Mage. While the change was gradual, it was still a surprise to everyone- Clover and the Court of Harmony (name given to the fellowship between the 3 pony tribes as rulers of Equestria until Celestia and Luna were of age) hardly knew what to do when he was gone.
For all Starswirl's wisdom- he is still mortal, and certain weaknesses are hard to avoid, especially in the face of power far greater than your own. Clover's worries are justified, as his mentor would undergo a dangerous transformation within his absence that impacted the future of Equestria- for better or for worse.
I'm hoping to push out all the lore and headcanons I can during the remainder of my break so I can finally kick off the beginning of Harmonyverse. Expect more stuff regarding ancient Equestria, Starswirl, the Royal Sisters, and the Court of Harmony!
