I love the way the boxy and geometric elements work with the organic parts

Wait, so the alien has those weird boxy features in their body? It looks like you just threw a skin texture on the armor model.

Wait... what? Excuse me but what do you mean by: I just "Β threw a skin texture on the armor model"?

Clarification: Talking about the model not the texture. I didn't mean to put down your texturing skills, sorry.Β I really do like your work, and I think the armored version looks great on it's own, but when you put the 'naked' model next to it, it's physically conflicting and doesn't make sense.
The alien's bare body model is really peculiar with those box shapes. I spent at least 5 minutes staring at it trying to find differences in shape between the two.Β I said 'threw a skin texture on the armor model' because the base model doesn't really look different.Β What exactly does the armor add on top of their body if the armored and unarmored models are both shaped the same? At least when you only look at the armor model the chest's and crotch's unnatural shape make you think 'this is part of the armor'.
Suppose the nude alien's body really is like that. Then wouldn't the armor be bulkier to protect those areas? I mean the chest is so detailed, but the armor is exactly the same shape, so it doesn't really seem like the 'armored' version is wearing anything.

An armor doesn't need to be bulky anymore. Have you ever hear about the second skin ? Now, the goal is to have a gear/suit/armor/protection as close as possible from the body in order to make him feel Β like he is naked.

Yeah I can imagine skin tight suits and considering it's an alien, anything is possible in terms of body shape. However when most of the alien has organic shapes (muscle, sinew and bones), the boxy chest and crotch stick out very oddly. I want to say 'unnaturally' but that's undefined since it's an alien, we can't say what is and isn't natural. It might even be that they are implants.
With all your other work, the tech armor is supportive or supplementary to the body, looking at the details I can imagine all sorts of functional reasons for why they exist, even if you didn't intend it. That's the great thing about sci-fi and your work, it lets my imagination go wild. I can look at any other part of the alien's armor and imagine why it might be designed that way, but with the chest and crotch it just doesn't make sense.Β
The point is: Those shapes appear non-organic which is inconsistent with the rest of the body.
If I only look at the armored version the impression I get is functionality and it doesn't matter what is and isn't natural. The chest looks like a big bulky storage with small boxes (resembling missile hatches), maybe some sort of ventilation in the middle. The crotch looks like a utility belt and maybe a codpiece. Even the head, one might imagine could be electronic/robotic based given it's odd shape. That is the impression I get when I look at the armor version only, and given your responses, it doesn't sound like that's what you intended.
When I see the naked body, the shapes contradict everything I previously thought about the armor, which is why I get this 'this looks wrong' feeling. Saying it's skin-tight armor doesn't really fix it either because then it just seems like a peculiar design. It doesn't *look* like skin-tight armor and that's not the impression it leaves.
That's what made me think the skin texture was applied to the same model. I like the armor design but couldn't imagine it being skin tight so instead I thought the alien's body is wrong.

I think he means by you textured the actual model and not painted over it. c:
