Looks pretty cool. It almost seems like they're dropping rapidly and this scene was caught during that moment

Thank you and sorry at the same time, I'm very behind messages on DA. I can say that it's pure honour for me to be included in such a good companion

Awesome I think Bryce was the first ever 3D program I used

Hehe, thanks! I like to try different things, learn new renderers and software, using not-so-easy solutions. For example I test Bryce's renderer lately if it can be forced to LWF. It's quite vintage renderer internally, but I love the procedural textures. The renderer became much more capable in v.7, still no adaptive samplers tho' (all brute force), but I'm patient person

Do you have a standard modeling application like Blender or Maya? You can add a lot of renderers to those

I've learned 3D basics in 3dsmax, I know a little bit of Blender (I like UVmapping in it, but hate modelling). I've played with Indigo and Vray (when they were still free), I know basics of MentalRay, Kerkythea, I've tried once to write and exporter to LuxRender (from a bit more exotic from your point of view file format) but I lacked time, experience more math knowledge at that moment, I might come back to it once tho ...
and gotta try more that Cycles - just downloaded yesterday Blender 2.64a with more Cycles features (I don't use branches)...
...so worry not for me I just like experiments

I just like experiments too 99% of the things I render never end up making it to da, they are just for fun.

Cycles was looking good last time I tried it a few months ago. It's probably a lot better now I should download it and play with it again, tomorrow, after sleep

How far did you get with the luxrender exporter?

Here's the list of updates for Cycles in 2.64 version: [link] I've waited mostly for Light Path update and 'filter glossy'. I need to get a grip again on my time, cause I'll gonna get lost next week under a pile of things that need to be done so no Cycles tests for me for a while.

About the exporter - you may have a look at this thread to see my progress: [link] I've used a library to parse the file format, but it wasn't providing me all required options. It was clear I need to write my routines from scratch. I got stuck at calculating the smoothed normals based on the given angle (cause Lux needs to have vertices duplicated at hard edges + mesh split into the parts at the edges) + models that had incomplete UV coordinates caused model not to render at all (mismatch between number of vertices and UV pairs).

Now Mitsuba Render is pouring warmth into my heart. It's written mainly by a single person, and growing very fast: [link]
And the exporter: [link] (haven't tried it yet, but I have it in plans right after trying out new Cycles options)
If you have a look at the documentation: [link] - chapter 8.1.5. You can see the option for loading mesh with normals or without, then option to reject and recalculate the normals (based on given smoothing angle) inside the renderer. Now I just write *.ply or *.obj exporter and a scene file with includes for them, and don't care about normals in most commonly used occasions...

Have a good day/sleep at night (I know how it feels to have too few of it - )

*downloads new cycles* YAY I RENDERED A CUBE ON A PLANE lol Blender is tricky to get used to. I've seen quite a bit about Mitsuba renderer so I just downloaded it and WOW, so many rendering settings to play with I just wish I was more proficient at using blender (the exporter works great btw).

Yeah, Blender's like that, even when you take time to conform it to your settings it's always when I come back after a while to it I once again can't remember the keyboard shortcuts . I'm often modelling in Anim8or (looks like an offspring of 3d studio 4 ), but when I'm supposed to render something and then I think I'd have to export the scene and remake all the materials for another renderer... I'm just raytracing the thing in internal renderer
About Mitsuba - complex exporter sounds nice! lot of rendering settings = lots of tweaking and fun. BTW, Mitsuba comes from scientific background and has very nice rendering methods (with wide possibilities of tweaking) - something more than BDir MLT, though the biggest issue might be that it's not spectral (i.e. no dispersion).

Fascinating lighting effect you have achieved here. Does not look like a Bryce render and has a photographic quality.

I wish you would have rendered it finer. It's a great looking image, but fuzzy.

Oh... I wished I've rendered in higher resolution too...
The thing with particles in Bryce is that they're not repeatable, so every time I went back to that frame they looked different. After I've found constellation of spheres I liked I rendered and saved the image, then I decided to render in higher resolution, but when I changed the resolution all my beautiful particles were redrawn and disappeared That's the pain of using experimental features...

Yes, I do understand! Bryce is not an easy software to learn! I only said that because I would have loved to see it in a high render. Keep doing the great work! You'll get there!
