Description (2008) 5 1/2" x 10 1/2" Pencil on Paper. Processed and framed in Photoshop.

The 6s stabilize and order the unbridled and sometimes destructive energy of the 5s and are associated with the sun, with clarity, order and energy of life.

In the area of the swords (air and rational mind) solar energy gives clarity and knowledge. We seek for the truth, strive for harmony of mind and nature, for objectivity, understanding and intelligence. The card may signify sudden blazing insights and unconventional solutions to problems.

For the image of the card I picked six books with the publisher’s symbol of a sword to give the six swords for the card. As book topics I used magic that had to do with air, speech, ratio and the sky: runes, levitation, astrology, arithmancy and air itself.

Well, you were tenacious following it up to the source!

While I can't offer the deck commercially I do offer privately printed and signed copies. If you want just the proofs from the printer to cut out the cards yourself it's $80, for a cut deck it's $100. The cards are printed on heavy glossy cardstock and as good as any commercially available deck. Interested? Just let me know, please.

Should have been the actual series.

That's a fun idea, too! I wanted some "airy" themes for the books.

The characters are too human for that.

AKA Hermione's bookshelf
Ancient Runes and Arithmancy were classes she took, and she was the first to Levitate the feather in Charms class

This is simple, but very interesting. I mean, hey, it's books. You'll not get a complaint from me on that topic But I like how all the straight lines contrast with your tarot swirlies. And you always do such a perfect job with perspective. The sword as the publishers logo was a neat idea, and I like you sneaking in the astrological symbols on the spines too.

Ellygator In reply to magpiesmiscellany [2008-10-05 12:59:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I actually used some of my old antique books as a reference arrangement. I have a couple of 19th century English editions (nothing super valuable), but the leather and gold and linen of the spines were a great inspiration.

Thank you, it's been quite a project - 78 cards in total. I started last year in summer, and aside from a few commissions I've drawn little else. It felt like a good accomplishment putting the last pencil strokes on my 10 of Disks, but also a little sad. I think I'll miss the cards. Now it's back to some commish work, and to getting geared up for Christmas and making presents for family and friends.

When I graduate in Arithmancy
I will try to calculate the magical quantity 78 x AMW
(Absolutely Meticulous Work)

I have to repeat that most of them are great by themselves
and all have great commentary!
