Description (2008) 3"x2.75" for the knotwork pendant, 18" overall length. Silver Art Clay, liver of sulphur, grey transparent enamel, faceted labradorite beads, labradorite cabs, bezel wire and round silver wire, Bali silver, silver findings, fireline.

I carved the basic shape of the main pendant and the dangle from art clay, fired the pieces, added bezel-wire, fired again, added enamel to accentuate the carved areas, fired a third time, set the stones and antiqued and polished the silver. I then connected the pendant and dangle and added two strung necklace components on either side.

Thank you! It's a design that I kept coming back to quite a bit - a ring is based on it, another necklace just like it, but with sunstones, and even a wing bracelet... I am glad you like it.

I love the art deco feel of this piece, and of course it looks elvish stunning, whats liver of sulpher?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ellygator In reply to Devine-Inspirations [2009-03-22 13:13:40 +0000 UTC]

It's potassium sulfide, a yellowish looking material that you can buy in small rock-like chunks. If you dissolve it in warm water and dip silver or other copper alloy pieces in it, it forms first a gorgeous rainbow of colors on them and then turns into a soft grey patina that you can polish up to antique a piece and give it more definition.

It smells a bit sulfurous and is toxic when accidentally ingested, but not as toxic as silver-black (muriatic acid) that will tarnish silver a deep charcoal black and can also burn your skin and lungs if you're not careful.

It's lovely. Also, it's really striking against that black bust; it really brings out the silver and the blue of the gems.
