Description (2005) 9"x 3.5", delica beads (light, medium and green metallic iris, matte black, matte silver and matte light grey), nylon thread.

The pattern for this bracelet is fairly simple, just a series of knotwork hexagrams, but I wanted to create the illusion that the green band was really lying on top of the grey body of the bracelet and that it was casting shadows on the background and on itself as it weaves under and over itself. I achieved that effect by actually threading darker grey "shadows" on the background and also darkening the green beads as a piece of the knotwork was twisting "underneath" another.

The three-dimensional effect I achieved is quite subtle, but noticeable when the bracelet is worn and the trompe d'oeil effect gets me quite a few requests for a closer examination from observers.

Thank you! It was definitely interesting to plan it and see it come out.

I'm getting excited, I finally tackled Peyote stitch and made a great bracelet for myself, and now I'm working on trying to recreate your beautiful Burmese Python bracelet. I found that I can get it started without difficulty if I make the first 2 rows (the ones that turn) with one blank color, then begin the pattern. I later unstitch the blank beginner rows, leaving beihnd the pattern! It's very slow going, but fun to have wider possiblilities with a diagonal stitch.

You know that is a brilliant idea! Mind if I steal it and suggest it to my students in beading classes. I'll give due credit, of course! Oh and I look forward to see how your bracelet turns out.

Why of course not! In fact I feel very flattered! I'm trying to get someone to take a high-quality shot of the bracelet, as my own camera is no good on small details...

Thank you! And yeah, it's always a shame to see gorgeous beadwork presented in sub-quality camera shots. You wanna fave, but the image just doesn't quite do it for you. Better to hold out!

This is beautiful work! All of your designs are creative but this one is really amazing. You made it look so three dimensional just by adding a few darker beads in key places.

Thank you! I've looked into kaleidoscopes since I was a kid and symmetries have always interested me. This particular pattern can be found in a lot of moorish tile-patterns, like in the Alhambra in Spain. All I did was adapt an old principle to Peyote and size it for a good bracelet size.

I had to full view this one to make sure the bands weren't actually sitting on top of the bracelet - only then did I read the description. The 'shadow' idea really worked for the effect.
I wish I was as productive with my jewelry as you are. I haven't gotten much done lately, and the fact that you post so many detailed pieces is making me slightly jealous Must find more time to work...
