Description May, 1982: Iranian regulars face the reality of a fierce fighting against Iraqi troops at the second battle for Khorramshahr, Southern Iran, during the Iran-Iraq war; a war that - probably due to the lack of western casualties - was almost totally forgotten by the general media and ordinary public.

The war lasted for 8 years and caused almost 1 million casualties, among civilians and militaries alike. Military expertise from both sides was really low, and they tried to use what they had. The Iraqi troops were supplied with weapons from both US and USSR, mainly because both feared that a victorious islamic republic could spread their ideals to other countries and transform the Middle East into an even more anti-western place, and destabilize the muslim communities inside USSR itself.

Iran, without equipment, resorted to their soldier's fanatism and and filled their population with the promise of martyrdom. Squadrons of children clearing minefields (literally running through them), and utterly suicidal attacks made by volunteers without any kind of equipment to open the way for the regular army were not uncommon, their heads filled with promisses of going to the paradise and dying as martyrs.

There were no victors, and the war ended in an uneasy truce.

Don't take it personally. There are a lot of wars we don't remember. Even our own...

yeah, hard to find footage of the Iran-Iraq war. Mostly because people didn't give a fuck. But it was brutal, no doubt

Actual some historian believe the Iran-Irag war caused Saddam's invasion of Kuwait, and the first Iraqi war (Operation Desert Storm by the Americans.) Saddam's vain attempt to conquer Iran (pushed by some western powers) bankrupt his country and try to take over Kuwait oil feilds to get some of their riches.
Sorry about that I something of a history nut. Excellent drawing by the way

Yeah, exactly! Saddam thought the entire arab world "owned" him for facing a dangereous rebel country like Iran, and after the bankrupcy the war caused, he tried to "collect the debt" with Kwait.

Hahaha why the hell would you be sorry about that, that's what the internet is about, information exchange, right?

Few million dead, trillions of dollars lost, and no ground gained.

Fuck Saddam.

Yes, something like that, world war I tatics right into the 80's.

And, of course, wouldn't be possible if both super powers weren't supplying him with all kinds of material.

Exactly. Waste of good human beings for one horrible dictator who wanted to destroy a struggling nation.

Indeed.
