This species is native to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. It is cultivated around the world as an ornamentla plant. However, it's rarely collected from the wild as it is more difficult to successfully grow this species compared to other Agapanthus species. Most cultivated plants of this are hybrids or cultivars.
