Description
This is my own little interpretation of Ghetsis' (left) and N's (right) overworld sprites, so I didn't recreate them exactly. I mixed in a ton of stuff from the official artwork because I want to get better at drawing these two, and you know, find out how I want to draw them.
I tried some new techniques in the shading department this time. The shading for hair that I'd done on "Pretty Flower for a Pretty Girl" was a bit too complicated and finicky, so I simplified it and I'm happy with the results. I used multiple layers at different opacities for the shading instead of just one and I found I had much better control over the look of the drawing. (I think they were 50%, 45%, 40% and 35%.) So I think I'll be doing things this way more often!
"I love Ferris wheels. The circular motion... The mechanics... They're like collections of elegant formulas."
-Natural "N" Harmonia
I'd drawn N twice back in the Miiverse days, but because they were from that era they weren't very good. So I was more than excited to do this beautiful creature justice!
Now I must inform you all that I have the biggest crash on N. Like holy crap do I love this boy, I love him more than I've ever loved anyone else and I'm being 100% serious in that statement.
Never before have I been so happy while drawing someone! Every single aspect of his design was pleasing to draw, my hand was always moving confidently and gracefully... I found myself smiling involuntarily while working on him because the mere sight of him makes me feel good, even now as I write I am smiling.
I have been consumed by love... but I don't mind. It's awfully nice here.
"I'm doing this out of kindness. Yes, kindness. I'm making sure the Champion doesn't get hurt for no reason. Granted, the moment someone loses all hope... I really do love to watch that moment. Well then, farewell."
-Ghetsis Harmonia
I'd drawn Ghetsis in one of my sketchbooks, but it turned out kinda awful and I hated it. But not this time, I had a lot of fun drawing him! Especially the pattern on his robe and that gorgeous long wavy hair. I swear his hair is half the reason I drew this, it looks so pretty!
We humans generally prefer symmetry to asymmetry, but I love how asymmetrical his design is. It actually makes drawing him easier and less stressful because I don't have to worry about getting everything perfectly symmetrical.
Not until working on this did I notice how goddamn creepy he looks. No wonder I never trusted him, just look at that evil grin! His emotionless eye doesn't help the situation either.
