Description

#Thalassocnus is an extinct genus of aquatic or semi-aquatic giant sloths, of the family #Nothrotheriidae , which lived in South America between the #Miocene and #Pliocene . Their record includes the coasts of #Peru and the English Bay, north of #Chile in 2008. It is considered that they were #grazers that consumed #algae and #seagrasses that, little by little, went from a semi-aquatic diet to obtaining their food making underwater dives in deeper waters. They may have used their claws to hold on to the seabed while eating, similar to the behavior of the marine iguanas... Let's just hope the #Livyatan specimen in the background doesn't catch it first!
