This played out exactly the opposite for me. My Shep let Thane be the good cop so as not to push him into an unpleasant role. Then she was unable to overcome her paragon nature for the majority of the interrogation, leaving us an ineffectual pair of good cops. Thane similarly stood around being confused in this situation too.
At least until my patience wore thin and I used the last renegade interrupt.

I discovered it's more fun when you play paragon, and just use the third renegade interrupt (when Thane tells you it's taking too much time) then the lawyer arrives. Then you say "spectre" and they both piss their pants

My first playthrough I just said "Fuck it" and beat the shit out of him even though I was playing Paragon, and chose the "Eh, he'll get over it," response.
Then I failed the mission and reloaded my save. This time I actually held back from hitting Elias (it wasn't easy), but when Thane warned me his lawyer would be there soon, I cracked and went for the "I'LL CUT YOUR BALLS OFF AND SELL THEM TO A KROGAN" interrupt.

Well you know, that part is just fun. Also I felt a tad silly being nice to the guy when he only kept telling me to bugger off, and getting nowhere.

Ditto. And just think what you've left the citadel police with. They permitted two unknowns to be along with a prisoner, beat him for information and prevented his lawyer from getting to him.
On the other hand this guy hired an assassin to murder a politician. This is the guy that the captain at C-Sec has a deal with. Clearly they're keeping the crime rate down.

Yeah, I tried it both ways and really, Bad Cop is the way to go seeing as Good Cop really gets you nowhere. And besides, they REALLY put way too many Renegade Interrupts there even for the most stalwart of Paragons to sit patiently through.

I managed to get the fastest interrogation option once, because my game was bugged after I patched it with Kasumi dlc O_O
I got many Renegade points for not being Renegade once in the game. XD

Se non ricordo male io, da buona Paragon, scelsi di fare il poliziotto buono ma siccome il tizio continuava a non dire nulla, e Thane non faceva praticamente niente (e meno male che รจ un assassino abituato ad usare le maniere forti!) mi sono vista costretta a malmenarlo. ร stato il momento di maggiore soddisfazione in ME2 superato solo da quando non riuscii a resistere e buttai dalla finestra quel povero mercenario nella missione di recrutamento di Thane.
