how much for one of these, but ...real heavy leather, not SCA. THICK leather something that can take a sword cut

The cost will depend on the size needed, SCA requires 16 oz (armor bend) and is the thickest available, most portions of the leather is doubled up with the floating plates in addition to two layer of 5 oz oiled leather so on 2/3rd of the portion covered you are looking at 42 oz thickness. Plus the majority of it is hardened.  (www.tandyleather.com/en/leathe… )

SCA isnt LARP, we fight with Solid Rattan swinging with full force, and most armor specifications are that which would have been used in medieval combat partially for safety and partially for authenticity.  While not as effective as Steel, this would be able to take some damage while offering protection. I havent tested it against a keen Katana edge or anything, but it most certainly can take a blunt blade and glancing blows, I wouldn't recommend testing it on yourself though, you'll end up with bruises and possibly broken bones depending on the weapon (A massive Iron Mace for instance), it will stop it but the force still gets transferred especially without a gambison (Armor cant bypass Physics).  I dont think any leather can stand up to Piercing or Thrusting Damage though, which is why it tends to be classified as "light" armor, even though it can weigh quite a bit.

If you want thick heavy leather armor, this is it.

well this seems to be the leather thickness i nee than. i'll get my measurements in the next few days and post them for you. I'm assuming you need: Neck, shoulder to the bottom of armpit, chest & waist, so that's what i'll send.

And yes, i'm not expecting any piercing or thrusting damage, all slashing, but won't be with blunted weaponry. all our practicing is done with keen edges and full battle ready blades. nor am i chancing testing it out on my own with a mace XD, my superiors would have a field day with that one.

Well since you are planning on actual battle what I can do if you are serious is send you a sample of the hardened leather to see if it will fit your needs.  Then you can test your blades to ensure it will serve your purpose.  These cost a pretty penny so I want to ensure it is what you are looking for and will provide the protection you need.  I'll need precise measurements to craft it but for now just to get a price estimate Ill need the circumference of your chest and waist, plus the distance from your waist to neck.  If we can agree on a price Ill send you a test sample and then we can go from there.

Sounds good. You should have my measurements here in the next few days. (most likely a day or two after Yule)
