The thumbnail looks like crap. Ah, well.The tl;dr version: Bofur is awesome, so I drew him.
I've seen the movie thrice, and loved it more each time. Bofur is my favorite dwarf so far. Yes, all three Heirs of Durin are good-looking, but this guy has a mischievous streak a mile wide and a heart more golden than can be found in a mine.
And I love his ridiculous hat. I wanted to challenge myself. It seems that when people see someone drawing (regardless if the subject is a dragon or a VERY stylized anime character), they seem to think that said artist can also draw a portrait of them. This is a very odd train of logic, to be honest. I mean wouldn't ask an architect to draw a portrait, but they can certainly draw. Regardless, I needed to practice real people features more.
So onto paper Bofur goes, no pencil sketch. Sat on my bed with paper, markers, and a hatlight like a kid trying not to get caught being up late.
Also, for those who of us who REALLY REALLY hoped "Misty Mountains Cold" would go on longer than the minute it did, Peter Hollens has done a pretty bang-up job over here: [link] . It's not the really amazing cast, but it's 4 minutes closer to the length of the original song in the book.

lol. If there were a cheap theater within 50 miles of me (heck, 100 miles would be nice), I'd be tempted to wait for a LOT of things to come out over there.
Did you see the other dwarf one? I spent more time on it. It doesn't look as sketchy.

I MIGHT be slightly crazy, but I think these actors should adopt a slightly tamed down variation of the beards.

I am like a magnet for beards so getting me to shut up when the lady dwarf was their was hard cus I could only think of Gimli saying the only way to dwarf men and women was the beards but wtf the PRINCE of DWARFS has like lite stubble...I was protesting the entire movie drove everyone nuts. By Gimli standards that makes Thorin,Fili, and Kili all lady dwarfs...

Yeah, real life. I mean... I can't see those actors walking around with, say, something as dramatic as Bombur's beard. But some of the others were fine.
Richard Armitage said he came to think of it as kind of an homage to Thror's singed beard, so maybe he would have planned to grow it out when he re-conquered the mountain. *shrug* Doesn't explain his beard pre-Smaug. (He seems to be the biggest Tolkein nerd in the cast this time around, though, so that might have bugged him, too.) They did play with the idea of a huge beard. There's a Hobbit artbook with a bunch of concept sketches. The lady-dwarfs all have very... delicate beards. [link] This was one of the pages. I don't think they used many of these designs: [link] . Here's one in the movie: [link] So, definitely more feminine, yeah, but not female.
Kili's stubble, now.... Oh, that drove me nuts....

It's hard for me to decide who my favorite is though. Well, I still have 2 more movies to make up my mind.

I use drawing as an ice breaker, alas. But I'm no caricature artist. I can't whip out a pic like this in 20 min, so folks demanding a portrait right then still get turned down. v.v
Who else is in the running thus far? And I REALLY like the way Martin Freeman portrayed Bilbo. He got the little mannerisms down well!

Like I didn't like him enough as Watson in the BBC's Sherlock or Tim in the Original Office but now they make him an adorable Hobbit. I'd cuddle that man even if he's like 40. XD

At first, I thought it was digital until I read your summary and I was like o.o!! That is just plain awesome to be able to create something so real with markers.
