Description
On the afternoon of October 29, 1975, we're on Milwaukee Road's Pacific Extension Mainline outside of Deer Lodge MT to chase trains. Soon, we caught a Chicago Bound Manifest freight with an interesting lashup trundling past our cameras. The train is loaded with Grain, Logs, & Lumber from the Pacific Northwest, General merchandise, LPG, & Autoparts all bound for the Windy City. The power is a GP38-2 leading both a U33C & U36C on this train. making this catch one of few times, we caught U-boats on the Milwaukee Road. Between the rail line & the hill we're standing on is a field of horses which the farm next to the tracks own. 5 years after this shot was taken & due to the final bankruptcy, Milwaukee Road abandoned their Transcontinental mainline west of Miles City MT. Today, the line we caught the train on is now a rail trail, never to see another train again.
