Description
On the morning of October 27, 1984, we're on Norfolk Southern's former CNO&TP Mainline outside of Chattanooga TN to chase N&W J Class #611 on the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum's Autumn Leaf Special from Chattanooga to Crossville TN & back. The Queen of Steam was in her 3 year of her first excursion career & was making a killing out of it with trips over the former Southern, Wabash, Nickel Plate, & of course, her home rails, along with trips on the C&NW to St. Louis MO. Soon, we caught the 611 & her 25 car train racing along at track speed heading for Crossville. A few of the coaches were from the defunct Chessie Safety Express from 1980-1981, along with a couple of coaches from TVRM. To us, Steam in the Autumn Colors looks amazing especially in West Virginia & Tennessee including the New River Trips we would chase NKP S-2 #765 the following year. The train would reach Crossville in the afternoon & would return that evening. We'll chase the TVRM's Autumn Leaf Special into the coming years until the end of the steam program 10 years later in 1994.
