Description This took a while. I've been working on the painting, between dayjob assignments and (not)having a social life, since the beginning of September. Finished the WCing two weeks ago, and I found a WONDERFUL local place to do large format scans and prints, too. In case I ever need prints at 24x36 inches.

It was going to be a simply one-off image for a portfolio addition, but it's spiraled into a whole set of images, the next sketch of which is in my scraps.

So, glowfruit, trees, kids, dragons, and a really tough lighting arrangement on the second-largest watercolor I've ever attempted. More to come!

(To clarify, this was not 36x24 in. It's roughly 20x13 in.)

Watercolor with digital color correction/levels adj.

Yarka St. Petersburg, I think they're made by Jack Richeson.

This is an amazing work. And so large! you did a remarkable job. I have one question, how did you make those amazing dark, rich colors in the leaves?

A gajillion layers of really dense greens and browns. And some level adj. w/ photoshop, but really not much. The original is pretty damn dark.

I always thought the dragon was merely a companion in the fruit grove. After all, the kid doesn't look too scared.

This is absolutely stunning, really! I'm a big fan of that circular composition in particular... especially that you've left that space open near the bottom left corner. And the lighting!

The design of the dragon creature is particularly enchanting.

Well worth the time and effort, I say!

Aw, thank you. I appreciate the praise. Stunning isn't something I generally assume my work to be. : ) I had wanted to try that circular focus, but didn't want a centralized composition either. Not sure what my results were on that...

Everyone tells me it's a duck dragon. I can get down with that.

I've no critique to offer. The lighting and POV are so well executed. It's a wonderful scene and shows a lot of time and skill behind it.

Ah, nice. Your colour and shading really add a lot to the piece, gives it a solid depth and focus.
