Description A Gapuri dancer. Most Gapuri are a little more bulky than this individual, who is more slender. Warm colors are a favorite amongst many of the Gapuri cultures, as well as bright or clashing patterns.

Thanks for looking This is the first picture I've drawn like this, I feel like the movement is a little stiff but I liked it well enough to slap some colors on.

hehe nope, though to be fair i never *really* got how their arms worked down pat. Now it's just for fun, even if noodle arms don't make sense. I'm just too attached to the design to change it.

How did these dancers occur in their society?

exo-bio In reply to TheMadIceCreamRobot [2013-08-04 06:31:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, this is a very outdated picture so the dancers are very different looking now, but in general the dancing was used for story telling as well as for pleasure, some forms symbolized warring as well.

In that case: Is there any other sentient race of aliens besides the Gapuri on that world? If not, do they form individual nations like we humans do on Earth?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to GeneralSnuggles [2014-02-13 15:07:59 +0000 UTC]

The Gapuri are the sapient race, like humans are on earth. I would argue that nearly all animals are sentient. As for nations, yes and no. The gapuri are still in a very tribal state and so they don't have big nations, just large tribes or territories. Generally speaking though they get along pretty well with their neighbors, war is an unnecessary and costly thing to invest in most of the time. They try to work out a compromise with talk before they go to bloodshed. This is only ideal though, skirmishes happen anyways.

This is an old sketch and not how they look anymore. This was an early concept of them when they were much more humanoid. They've come a long way. [link]

I picture Gapuri dancing in an odd way. I picture them quickly moving and freezing in positions like this, staying like that for like, 2-4 seconds, then rapidly switching into a new similar pose... Sort of odd to describe, but yeah...

They do lots of very fluid and constantly changing dances too, often involving one or more partners.

They must look like delicate squid-like plants being blown around in the wind. I wonder who would win in a human vs. Gapuri dance off competition xD

If a friendly Gapuri met a friendly human, how would they each react? Would it be like an "E.T." moment?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to IA3 [2012-09-11 01:32:25 +0000 UTC]

Probably curiously. The Gapuri are larger than us, so jeh would probably approach cautiously, but would definitely investigate. And since we are assuming it is a friendly human things would probably go over well.

If they are one gender, do they reproduce sexually of asexually?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to IA3 [2012-08-13 04:39:03 +0000 UTC]

They need a partner to reproduce, but they, and many organisms on Skatha, have evolved to consolidate the purposes of the male and female gender into one. This happened early on in evolution, it was successful and efficient and wasn't plucked out as the organisms evolved.

Could a human and an Gapuri live together on the same planet? And how would one of them react to a human?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to IA3 [2012-08-13 05:34:22 +0000 UTC]

Humans could live on Skatha but they would need respirators (the atmosphere is similar to Earth, but the oxygen content is higher and we are not used to processing it), and would need to exercise regularly with weights to keep their muscles from getting weak in the lower gravity.
How they would react to a human is debatable, depending on who you met first it's going to be a different experience; you could meet a young, curious individual, or an older, more cautious, possibly even violent one, though confrontation is generally avoided unless absolute need. This is because competing for a mate wasn't based on strength and power but on colors, songs, and display (and that's why the Gapuri are quite colorful).

This is lovely, I love the motion and the COLORS!

What do they produce their cloth from? Are the markings on their skin painted, tattooed, or natural?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to Doodlebotbop [2012-01-06 05:36:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! And a lot of their clothing is made out of silk produced by a worm native to the tropics. Other fabrics are woven from a tree that produces a wool like material.

In tribal times they harvested it from the wild, now they raise the worms in captivity. Makes things a lot easier haha
