At least Proviso is still a hump yard. Been very unhappy about current railroading lately.

I'm glad it still is. I remember when UP took over C&NW, one of the first things they tried to do was automate Proviso. Took 'em about three months to figure out that was never going to be possible. UP personnel that had been to Proviso knew it wouldn't be, but the brainiac (?) expert bean counters in Omaha who had never been there had to learn the hard way... through their stupid studies and analyses.

I so preferred CNW as an independent with UP using it as a Chicago outlet now UP is everywhere here and I kinda hate it.

Me too. I live about a mile or so from the former SP "Sunset Route". Of course it's now UP, but thankfully I get a little break from that because BNSF and KCS both have trackage rights on the line. Still, I remember when the power of choice along here were SP SD40T-2s. Can't remember the last time I saw one of those.

Yes! Cabooses everywhere still! I'm getting real depressed by contemporary railroading again...

I would sit on this bridge with my grandfather for hours on end and watch the cars come over the hump.
