Description It started out as a drawing of a girl's face, but then I decided it was Eilonwy and so the rest of the drawing happened too

I think I have Prydain on the mind because of Brian Jacques' recent death. Hearing the news about his passing was devastatingly similar to when I found out about Lloyd Alexander's death--both were authors whose works I have read faithfully since I was very small. I miss them both very much.

I like how this style turned out. It was funnily difficult to figure out what exactly 'red-gold' hair looked like in my imagination, though >.<

Incidentally this drawing is on watercolor paper, so I'll try to color it with my paints later and then we can compare the two!

Alexander, Jacques--thanks for the characters and the stories. My life wouldn't have been the same without you.

I really, really like how you drew Taran. Eilonwy looks lovely too, but Taran's expression is so determined, and so, well, so Taran. I always picture him with some kind of stubborn little frown/smirk. And I think red-gold is the hardest thing to picture for hair colours!

And I felt the same way about Jacques' death (and finding out that Alexander was also deceased). The world of children's literature has been so enriched by their works. They will be sorely missed.

I think we picture Taran the same! Thank you for the wonderful comment--It's always splendid to hear from other people who appreciate the same authors that I do. Jacques and Alexander were two of the greats.

I used to read those over and over when I was younger.

It's odd and sad and wonderful that stories can allow us to feels sadness at the deaths of people we never knew. I felt that way about Nicholas Courtney just recently.

I like how you did the glow of the bauble.

I didn't really like the books much when I was small--I read them at the same time I read LotR, so they just didn't seem so great comparatively to me--but when I rediscovered them a few years back I really fell in love with them. They're great children's fantasy but also have a peculiar, subtle sadness to them that I love. I'm reading the last book in the series to my little sisters right now

I agree with you, I felt like that about Courtney as well.

Oh wow, I had the exact same thought process when I heard about Brian Jacques' death. It's great seeing Prydain, fanart this is wonderful!

Thanks; yeah, Prydain doesn't get anywhere near as much fanart as it deserves!
