Description For more information on the entire series, read the "'Demon's Due' Defined" journal entry here. [link]

A few people out there have seen this map before, and you know who you are. I have changed it a bit over the years (I drew it about four years ago), as the ideas surrounding "Demon's Due" have evolved and expanded. I'm planning on doing a much better one in the future, but not right now while Elina's struggling at the mercy of The Last of the Gremlicans and Drea's confrontation with The Bad Guy is frozen in time.

Still, I thought this might be insightful and entertaining for a few people who are requesting a bit more information about the storyline than I've been giving in the last eight months.

Places of Note:

1. Dernhem (center). Where about two-thirds of the overall story will take place.
2. Mitesceru Manor (center-left). Maladyne's ancestral home, and the site of Chapter 2: Twisted Plot, as well as a bit more in the near future. Now it's mostly in ruins and considered spooky and dangerous.
3. Merwood (center, center-left). Where Annalae ran away after her mother was killed, and where she found the sabre-tooth skull that gave her sorcerous powers. Also where Deirdre used to hang out a lot before Luther pulled her in to investigate the Fair Harvest Inn.
4. Villios Manor (center-left). Where Anjerome and his two nieces, Avora and Elina, are from. Now, it's mostly empty.
5. Vandermoor Lands (center). Where Luther is from. No formal, central manor.
6. Aliandis Manor (center, bottom). Where Drea Aliandis is from.
7. Port Sessen (center-left, bottom). Wealthy port city over which Drea's family holds power.
8. Eiger Village (center, center-right). Small village wiped out a generation ago by the Cradle-Rot Plague and a resultant horde of Wormloat Gremlins.
9. The Well of Wisdom (upper-left). Where Scholars go to study and be trained, viewed in the first couple of images from Avora's dream in the beginning of Vision Impaired.

I'll move this to scraps in the near future.

Enjoy!

Excuse me, I'm terribly sorry to ask this, but I've gone back to work on my fanfic of DD and I need a little info, if you'd please. What's the story of Grommen and Hahn?

"What's the story of Grommen and Hahn?" Well, they only figure into the background and the fringe of the storyline in Demon's Due. In an upcoming addition to and revision of Twisted Plot, we will learn why it is that Avora has it in for Maladyne, and that reason involves a young nobleman from the city of Hahn (or maybe Grommen--I can't remember, although I have it written up in a background file somewhere). Hahn is a logging city, many of its citizens culling timber from the nearby evergreen forests to be sent downriver to Grommen. Grommen is the origination of the river trade in the area--there the wood is processed and turned into various forms including wood pulp that is sent to the nearby Scriptorium of the Well of Wisdom to be made into paper and used by the Scholars and Scribes to record and transmit knowledge. Other northern goods are loaded onto barges and sent south on the river, trading with the small communities living on the banks of the Renne in the Merwood, and again near the farmlands of Port Sessen, where the river trade meets the big city and the sea trade. As Dernhem has become more tightly gripped in a wave of crime, overland trade and travel has become less reliable, and the river-trade from Grommen to Port Sessen has become more important and profitable. That's about all I know offhand, and what I have written about Grommen and Hahn doesn't surpass that by much. I hope it helps.

Y'know Jeff, when I suggested you might add more contrast in your images to avoid having 'em look washed-out, I didn't quite mean like that. No need to overcompensate man, they look good! Really!

Hahah, it's me, baby! Just thought it was time for a change of scenery. So until I find an image I like better, y'all get to look at my tattoo for awhile!

Not intentionally, no, although I do find the imagery of that game and movie to be very compelling.

No, they make a competitive line of restraints: Kokooning Kords. They're all the rage in Kord...

lol one would think you'd put more puns into some of these names, given you've made quite a few pieces that have pun names for fictitious locations.

There are a few puns mixed in there, some hidden, and some somewhat obvious.

I think this looks a bit familiar, but it's still a pleasant surprise, and the pointed out places of interest certainly give it depth and interest.

And having drawn a map before, I don't blame you one bit for keeping it simple for now.

Your map makes this one look like a rather poor effort, I do say. Thanks!

See, and that's why I embraced insanity early, so I wouldn't have the angst of worrying about whether or not I was being driven there...

Efficient bit of cartography, clearly not intended to be artistic.

How odd. I was just thinking of doing a map to go with 'The Blackguard', I've already done a more general one to go with the original 'Haven' multi-authored story, ages ago, but I was going to do a more specific rone of Aratan and surrounding regions.[link]

Thank you. No, it's not an artistic map. I'll do one that will be much better in the future, though. I think a map of The Blackguard would be a great addition to the storyline.

I have to say, Jeff, you really seem to have dropped the ball on this drawing. Your work usually consists of beautiful composition and shading, but to be truthful, this...I mean, it looks likes like a child drew it...I'm so disappointed by the shift in quality...
