This thing reminds of the shadow ships from Babylon five, evil, spiky, black ships of death. Looks like the ship the grim reaper would captain

I like the design; not to undermine your artistic abilities, and i know this i an older ship, but doesn't that horn on the nose kinda defeat the purpose/(the possibility) of forward firing turrets? Would they mainly be for broadsidepurposes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

failurecrusade In reply to RoLiHuErTa [2006-03-17 23:10:57 +0000 UTC]

indeed the horn does interfere on the feild of fire for the turrets. however the foreward is coverred by a fixed array farther aft on the hull. lusfanian's tend to focus their ships on broadside armament, and the owner of this ship is quite a traditionalist.

Sorry about the late comment. I love the ship! Its lines and form are so graceful yet deadly at the same time. I would love to carve something like that out of wood, or perhaps model with fiberglass, as a display piece. Simply gorgeous.

...oooOOooo, now I'll have someting to do over the winter season!

Views needed: Forward, top, side, 1/4 forward, 1/4 rear and some close-ups of area with insane amounts of detail. As a trade-off, I'll make two and ship one to you if you want.

those sharp in poiinty bits were the hardest part of the whole ship!!!! thanks alot tho! its really good to know that some people see the small detail effort that took the most to create

oh i htought you were talking about the Quazi nova. that one doesnt look all that bad at all though, id still post it even if only to scraps

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

s2f In reply to failurecrusade [2005-12-05 14:33:30 +0000 UTC]

Aye, will do as soon as the final one is done. Which by the way is my THIRD try, as I recently just finished the SECOND try, it looks badass, however, I realized that what I've been doing is a scene WITH the Devourer, not a scene FOR the devourer. In other words, there's too many elements (IE, explosions, buildings, etc) deterring attention from the main subject who will be the Devourer. Sucks to have realized that after 2 tries on a scene, but hey, practise is practise. Will be doing the third and final over the course of this week... And yeah, I'll post the previous two on my scraps once the final one's up.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

failurecrusade In reply to s2f [2005-12-05 22:36:46 +0000 UTC]

yah i know how htat goes, i stll felt the devourer was the focal. its the most prominent, though i would say if you keep the explosions then you need more damage in the rest of the scene. but you would make a pretty effective shot if you simply put a really pretty muzzle flair on the guns...and tone odwn the bright colors of the backdrop...make it a bit more grey.

s2f In reply to failurecrusade [2005-12-06 04:21:42 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, but it's a pain in the ass to readjust all those settings... I just decided to actually sort of honor the old devourer and do a scene with three devourers just patrolling a desert environment, with some nice light and engine effects, like dust kicked up everywhere and a bunch of nice stuff... If I can get what I have in my mind into a render, it will be really cool

I'm wondering though, what are those rows of round things along the side of the ship? Cannon banks?

Really nice design! Could be some Chaos Marine ship from warhammer 40k I think the textures could still need some work. Well done though!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

failurecrusade In reply to CanisLoopus [2005-11-30 17:32:29 +0000 UTC]

the only texture on the model is a smoke map to genorate the bumps, everyhting else is done with mat id's and geometry. im a lost puppy when it comes to textureing.

the design actually has nothing to do with warhammer whatsoever. not even in terms of inspiration which comes from the old european broadside sail warships, and the ancient greek and roman garavel warships. i get the warhammer comment rather frequently so i do recognize the similarities, but i never would have even heard aobut that game if someone had not pointed out the similarities between the ships. although i had never heard one saying that it could be a chaos marine ship, typically i get the comment about the similarities to imperial ships.

glad you like it tho, ill keep more comin!

by the way youve got some pretty impressive 3d work yourself! if you have any ideas or recomendaitons then please by all means id love to hear em!
