Description FULL VIEW, PLEASE.
I invented this model as a variation of the "Volcanostar" [link] by Jorge Pardo. It is a modular ball with 30 units of 3". You can see this same ball beautifully folded by =wolbashi here [link] and here: [link]
This type of balls can be folded with different amounts of units, from 12 to 900, being the 30 units version the most popular. Here [link] is the 12 units version folded by me, and here [link] is the 24 units version folded by ~szataniasta
Folded with standard japanesse origami paper.
Dedicated to my friend because she is the nicest origami girl in the whole world. And please, visit her gallery [link] You won't be dissapointed

It was the first modular ball that I have invented and it is good.
After of it I have only invented another modular ball: the Harvey/Dent 30.

It is only a variation from the volcanostar by Jorge Pardo, and it needs glue when it is folded with more than 12 units; but I am proud of this model. This was the effect I wanted to get designing the unit. And this has been first time (and only time) I have invented a 30 unit ball.

Nice model! Is the assembling difficult?
Wolbashi is a nice person! She deserves it ^^

Figuer In reply to Kayura [2008-02-03 21:22:01 +0000 UTC]

The unit itself is difficult. The assembling is not difficult but too weak. I am able to assemble the 12 unit version without glue, but for this 30 unit version I used glue
And yes, Wolbashi is a nice person and she deserves it. I do agree with you

Kayura In reply to Figuer [2008-02-03 22:11:38 +0000 UTC]

Delicate as I thought. Have you tried to use washi paper for folding this model? The texture of tha paper can help on assembling ^^ When I don't wanna glue them I use this type of paper and I got interesting results.

I think the washi paper contains glue itself in its composition. I am not sure right now about it.
Nope, I haven't tried washi. I believe it is possible to fold the 30 units version without glue with an adequate paper and lots of patience.

Hello Marta
Yup, it is pretty About the pictures, I really don't like very much any of the pictures separatedly, but I like them gathered in this composition.
About the diagrams... Yay!!! Thank you! If you can finish them before the end of Mars, I think I could send them to its publication in the book of the next Spanish Origami Convention dued to May first.
Take care

hey Juan, looks great! u can use 900 units?!?! That would be awesome to make one, tho it would take forever...and turn out HUGE hahaha u sure you didnt mean *90 units??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Figuer In reply to Richi89 [2008-02-03 15:46:22 +0000 UTC]

Hi Richard. All this type of units are, in its structure, variations of the Sonobe module. Sonobe type balls can be folded with 12, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 84, 90, 108, 120, 210, 228, 270, 300, 360, 570 or 900 units.
Well, this wolbashi unit is too complex and its ensambling too weak to try to fold it with more than 30 units. But with the simplest sonobe type units the 900 unit version is possible.
Thanks for your comment
