Description The second bug I designed for Staship Troopers Roughnecks was the Tanker Bug. The CG studio Flat Earth requested more information about the way the mouth would work. So I did this sketch to demonstrate. It was never prepared as a color comp.

Gease, to think that these bugs couldn't' get any fatter lol. What makes this one have the name "Tanker"? Does he care some kind of fluid or something?

Yeah I was under the impression that Tankers were full of flammable liquid and were just walking flame throwers.

Yeah, i figured as much. They sounds like gasoline tankers, but in bug form lol.

Zohhhhh my gosh I enjoyed seeing this guy in that first Pluto episode. Maybe it was the vocals Jim Latham snuck into the music at that point, but I always thought this bug just had a great epic presence.

I haven't seen that show in far too long, not sure I remember this one.

Then again I used to watch it on a teeny tiny teevee so I probably don't remember all the details.

They were shown briefly in the 1st episode on Pluto.

You didn't miss much in the detail department, I wasn't happy with the way these bugs were textured.

Undrave In reply to filbarlow [2012-05-08 02:53:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see. Bummer about the texture.

filbarlow In reply to Undrave [2012-05-08 07:43:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah because he was handed over from Flat Earth (who were forced to close their doors) to Foundation the model slipped under my radar, it ended up with lots of procedural textures.

Undrave In reply to filbarlow [2012-05-08 21:10:37 +0000 UTC]

Well that sucks. It was only used in the first ep though?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

filbarlow In reply to Undrave [2012-05-09 05:20:48 +0000 UTC]

They were used in other episodes often as background bugs, but they didn't show up as much as you'd expect. I guess it was time saving thing to use one warrior bug model and instance it into a swarm than introduce tankers and blisters into it.

Well to be fair the warrior bugs do look great in a swarm
