Description
At long last, this is done. I took a lot longer on this one because there wasn't any good refs for the pose, lighting, colour etc so it was all quite against me from the start. Plus, I had to extensively tweak the background to get the mood I wanted.I was inspired by the mood of these series of amazing cosplay pictures: [link]
It was fun adding the snow. I used this tutorial to help me: [link]
I cropped the picture again after painting in the character because the statue was too distracting. The original photo is here: [link]
Painting the scarf took forever to make it look right. I tried to equalize the colours at the end but it didn't look nice at all. Thanks for the tip though, .
And just a quick note, that building is NOT the Kremlin, but a famous Russian Orthodox cathedral called St. Basil's. Most people, like me think that it's the Kremlin! The real one is just further along the Red Square.
[EDIT] Changed some of the snow after consulting . I think it looks better now and more calm, which is what I wanted it to be.

The hat and scarf look especially good. How you gave them a texture. It's like I could grab it and feel it almost.

Thank you. I took ages rendering the scarf because I couldn't get it looking woolly enough. I originally had the scarf in pink but it seemed too washed out with the gloomy background.

It was really worth it in the end though, I don't think I've ever seen such a realistic looking wooly scarf in my life. And to render it from a distance with detail was quite the task. Prop to you for that.
Oh, forgot to mention something. The reddened cheeks you gave him was a really nice detail. ^_^

Yes, I intentionally make him rosy-cheeked because it's cold.
For small pictures like these I tend to zoom in for the details although most of the time I'm working at the finished res.

It's only in recent years that I've attempted serious backgrounds and even then it's few and far between. And even now I hardly put my characters in environments. Thanks for your kind words anyway.
