"All Gone [ No Escape ]"
Ever since the morning that he had found her, Isolde had not mentioned home again. She could recall the awful feeling that had struck her when he revealed that he would not be able to take her home, Caspian did not know the way and neither did she, so Isolde saw no point in bringing it up and experiencing that pain all over again. Yet, thoughts of home always lingered in her mind.
Isolde would desperately push them down, however, focus on current events instead. Like her relationship with the quiet wolf who had saved her. Caspian revealed very little about himself, so she had learned to stop asking and in a silent retaliation, Isolde had barely mentioned anything of her home (not that he asked, anyway). But, she had to admit that she did respect him. He seemed to tolerate her, was even interested in teaching her how to fend for herself if he was free. And as the nights grew colder, Caspian was polite enough not to say anything as Isolde had gotten closer and closer each night until she was eventually by his side when it came for them to sleep.
Honestly, she had been pretty proud of herself. Isolde thought that she had been coping with accepting this new life pretty well. Her hopes of being able to somehow return home had not been fully squashed, there was still a small flicker, however, Isolde had started to fit into a new routine. So, she could not understand why one night she was feeling so miserable.
The he feeling had been creeping up within her all day. She had ignored it, or done her best to do so, instead Isolde had spent all day by Caspian's side rather than venture off by herself. He had noticed, yet again, not said anything much to her relief. When night fell, Isolde had returned to their den before Caspian, he had brought her food, a rabbit to eat, while he went to sort something out with the river wolves. Upon reaching the den, she had sat down near the entrance, the rabbit at her feet as the feeling continued to worsen. It felt like a heavy weight that pressed down on her. Her shoulders, her head, mind and her heart. Isolde couldn't describe it. She felt miserable, yet at the same time, completely blank.
Her gaze was pulled from the rabbit when she heard familiar voices - ones that belonged to the Dales. Isolde peered outside the den, soon spotting one of the younger members of the pack beside two older wolves. Then, all of a sudden, the feeling ignited into fury.
Breathing deeply, she pulled away from the den's entrance, briefly pacing back and forth before coming to a stop. Then, she started to tear apart the rabbit in frustration, grunts and indignant squeals of anger escaping from her.
Caspian had arrived not long after she had finished ripping what should have been her meal apart. His eyes lingered on the rabbit, then landed on her, it was clear he was about to question what she was doing, but Isolde cut him off in a quiet, yet clear voice.
"I want to go home."
As soon as the words had escaped her, the frustration she had experienced only minutes ago came rushing back and she stormed towards the much larger, older wolf. "I want to go home, I want to go home, I want to go home!" Isolde's voice rose, her tone no longer quiet as it reached much louder octaves, nearing an angered yell. Still, Caspian did not react further than a raised brow and lying down to watch her tantrum.
The lack of response only seemed to infuriate the pup even more, her eyes narrowing as he did nothing. No angry, scolding words, no lecture, no eye roll, huff or move to leave her be. He just sat there. As still as stone, the only sign of life being the occasional blink as he watched her pant in frustration between her cries of wanting to go home. Isolde continued to scream and yell, until finally, her voice became hoarse, a mere croak that scratched at her throat every time she tried to use her voice. It was clear that she had tired herself out.
Finally, the tears came. Sobs wracked through the pup's body, she stumbled forwards until she was between Caspian's fore legs, her head tucked against his shoulder as she wailed into his fur, her voice still ragged from her previous shouting. Still, no words left him. But, Isolde did feel the soft pressure of his chin on the back of her head, his paws corralling her further against his chest as she cried.
"I miss my family." Isolde finally managed to speak again. And once more, she received no verbal response. However, the feel of Caspian holding her close was more than words could do to comfort the pup.
