Found your piece through ProjectComment
Your piece looks really nice, and I admire your dedication to your art piece. Getting in the habit of taking your own stock is really good idea as you have full ownership over the image. I can tell that this piece took you a long time to do, and the work you put in it definitely payed off in the final image. I love the shadows and the details in the background. This is definitely up there in terms of quality with almost any animated film I’ve seen.
I used the animated film example for a reason, because animated films often have a simplified figure even in a really complicated background. If that’s the look you are aiming for, go for it! However, if you are looking for a more unified piece I would recommend spending more time on the clothing. You relied heavily on the line art to convey the wrinkles in the clothing but didn’t do that for the background. This causes a lack of depth and detail in the foreground that contrasts with the depth and painterly style of the mid-and-background. Again, if that’s what you’re looking for, awesome! But it wasn’t I would recommend spending time more evenly on your piece.
When I have this problem, sometimes (generally in my better pieces) where I will set a timer for each area, so I can keep track of where I’m spending my time, and balance it accordingly.
I have one other problem, which is the characters skin. Specifically where the skin is highlighted by a really warm light (as shown by the metal bars he is hanging from, if the light was cooler, they would be too, as metal is incredibly reflective, even when not polished.) Considering how warm the light is elsewhere in the piece, the only way his skin would look that cook, were if it was blue. This makes the character become set apart from the background and the world. I would recommend warming up the skin tone where the light hits it, which is on the knees, cheeks, and neck.
Sorry for going on so long on the ‘negative’ aspects of the critic, as there is a lot I really like about it. The character’s personality is conveyed completely into the piece. The background gives us the a hint about his normal living environment (low end of a city, possibly close to an industrial zone) and his clothing is a good choice as it and his posture tells us he is completely comfortable and familiar with this area. Over all, this piece is excellent.

No, your critique is extremely helpful. It's only through evaluating weaknesses that we can improve in anything, including art. I really appreciate your extensive feedback. Thanks so much for the ideas to convey greater unity. I've never thought about using a timer before. That's a really great idea. Thanks again for your ideas!

Hello! 1. Shoelaces! They wrote about them before me, but I repeat. Pay attention to the details! 2.Tolstovka should (in my humble opinion) a little more slip. 3. I am confused by the house in the background. He looks weird. 4. There are not enough shadows on the face.
In general, the work is good. Pleasant color scheme

Hi, this is EllieSphaera from ProjectComment here!
The thumbnail for this piece caught my eye before I even clicked on it. The colours are subtle, but they work really well, and make the background look quite industrial and bleak, which complements the character. I really like all the texture you put on the background, such as the rust and stains on the walls, and the details like the corrugated metal and all the pipes and wires - they add detail without taking away from the main focus of the piece, which is your character. The perspective is amazing, and as you said in your description, you took pictures of yourself to get it right. Your dedication shows in the quality and accuracy of the anatomy and perspective in this piece! The shading on his body looks good, and you've got wrinkles in all the natural places on his clothes. All in all, this is a really awesome and dynamic piece. I can't reiterate enough how much I like that perspective, it gives the whole thing so much movement! The way you've done the textures and lines, your character also really seems to belong in the background. Looks great!
However, I do have a couple points of constructive criticism. You don't have to listen to me, obviously, and some of these things might just be me misinterpreting things.
Firstly, this is really minor, but the strings on his hoodie don't seem to be obeying gravity. Wouldn't they fall down beside his face? I'm not sure though, they might stick to the sweater? Sorry about picking out such tiny details, but it didn't look quite right to me. If that is how it would work, feel free to correct me!
Secondly, his face is reeeaaallly pale. I haven't seen your character in any other works, so again, if this is the way it's supposed to be, then I stand corrected! It just looks unnaturally pale and a little unsettling, more like a mask than skin.
And that's all the criticism I can come up with! This is a great piece, with so much movement and intrigue, and the lighting is just beautiful, oh my god. You're really awesome at creating believable textures. Keep going, and your lighting/texturing ability will take you a long way! Keep up the awesome work!

Aw, thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to give me feedback. Yeah, I was going for a moment of movement like they were still in the process of falling, but I don't think I managed to give the rest of him enough movement to convey that effectively. Tiny details take a piece from good to amazing, so I appreciate your feedback.
Yeah, I'm still figuring color out. Trying to use the range of value and my skins end up suffering for it. I'll keep playing with it and see if I can find a better way to make it work. Thank you so much for your suggestions and feedback! I really appreciate it!

ineresting work. I bet you thought no-one would notice that the cords on the hoodie defy the law of gravity, now did you. Well sir I have discovered your ruse. Beautiful background tho. So rusty and coarse!

Thanks so much! And yeah, I was trying to depict them falling, like a shot taken mid movement, but obviously that didn't work out. xD Thank you for your feedback!
