Description This was a regular day shot in full colour - I fiddled with the red colour slider in the black&white setting in photoshop to get the very dark tones on the subject, and duotoned the image (only very slightly) too.
[The shot was taken in the north of Iran in the Caspian Sea, and the guy in the photo is Aref, a friend living there. Despite the photoshoping, this isn't a manip in the sense that he is actually standing there in the water.]

Good shot. With that contrast, it could even be oil that he's walking out of. How did you manage that depth of field though? A lens with a very high diaphragm opening, perhaps? Tilt-and-shift lens?

Aaaa. I see :/. forgive me my rashness, I didn't notice it was actually a plastic figurine . That brings a lot of things in perspective. (pun intended)

hehe, sorry but it's not a figurine. That's a shot of a friend at the beach. Messed with the red colour levels to get the dark black. And as for the depth of field you're right, it's tilt and shift - not with the camera itself, but with photoshop to get the same effect.

PerfecT!. all the more reason for a +fav . I didn't know you could simulate tilt and shift with photoshop.

fotocraft In reply to toQDuj [2007-09-20 17:24:12 +0000 UTC]

thanks for that . you can pull off tilt and shift by using a mask (best to do with the gradient tool set to "reflective gradient) then using the lens blur filter and tweaking it until you have the desired effect. Only learned to do this very recently myself and this photo is my first stab at it, though i have a feeling i'll be using it more in future.

you know.. your photos are not simple snapshots, as most newbies are doing, but have much inside, are fairly thought over, that's why i've said so ))
