Lol Guys should know not to stoke the fire and then just leave it lol XD
And thank you. I agree that some pictures need that definition, but I like this more because I'm big into soft colors and stuff. My favorite style of art is actually Impressionism and they just use a whole myriad of soft colors and I love it so much lol

Exactly! XDD
That's one of my favorite styles too. My mom does a mix of both Impressionism and Realism for her art so I'm surrounded by soft colors and vivid images.

Lol My favorite Impressionists are Mary Cassatt, Renoir, and Degas XD
I went to the Art Institute in Chicage when we went for a school trip and I was annoying my Mom with my Art Nerdy-ness XDD I was sitting there going. "OOOOOOH! Degas used a purple for the shading there with a green! I never would have thought of that! And look at that one by Renoir! It's like she's actually looking at you! And Cassatt!"
My mom and my friend that was with us just rolled their eyes and let me explain everything lol XDD
The first few rooms were funny because we went into the Baroqe period art first and my mom blanched and said, "OH MY GOD. They're naked!"
I was unsurprised because I knew that in that time period and in many others, the human body was considered a thing to master if you wanted to be great XDD
It was entertaining to see her go "OMG they're naked." at each picture like that XDD

Definitely some of the greats! My favorite of Renoir's is Jeunes filles au piano (Girls at the Piano). I got to see the original in Paris and it was so amazing that I took a picture of it without thinking (I have that reaction sometimes: see something wonderful, take a picture). The museum guard came running up to me and yelled in broken-English: "No flash! No flash!" (don't know how he knew I'd understand English, I wasn't the only tourist there). I held up my camera and said, "I didn't use a flash." The confounded look on his face was priceless b/c if he were to say "No photo" at that point it would have negated his implied statement before, namely, "You can take a picture, just not with a flash"
Since mom raised us to understand and appreciate art, we never need explaining XD
Bwa hahahaha! Your mom's reaction is priceless. to say "OMG They're naked!" in general is already funny, but at each picture...that's hilarious XDD
The things my mom has told me about her figure drawing classes . . . wow. I learned more about the human body from her description than I ever did from sex ed.

My favorite of Renoir is Dance at the Bougival. That's so cool! I got to see some of all of the ones I mentioned in Chicago and I was just dumbfounded at what they looked like in real life. I had to explain to my mom about the color wheel and how you can make shading more lifelike with opposite colors because she saw purples, blues, and greens in the skin XDD I was like "Mom, skin looks yellow, pinkish-orange, and red right? So, you take the opposites of those colors to create the perfect shading!"
She just looked at me like I was crazy lol XDD I just pointed at the paintings and said, "Apparently it works."
It was hilarious! My friend and I were snickering the whole time because we didn't even bat an eyelash at the paintings XDD We were like "Okay. Naked woman." My mom: "Omg why do they have to paint naked people all the time? Couldn't they draw something else?" XDD
Lets just say she was happy to get into the Impressionist wing lol
Yeah, I'm kind of nervous about taking art classes in college because I don't know if we'll have to do that in later classes

I love that one too. It's true; they are so much more beautiful in person. My mom is always quizzing us on things like that. She'll point at some object in real life and say "pick out the colors" then she'll drill us on the colors to use for the highlights and shading. I didn't end up being as talented as she is, but I'd like to think it helps my description in my writing.
The good thing about the trend of doing the human body was that they didn't depict it as a sexual object but as a form of beauty and grace.
LOL Impressionists do nudes too.
It really depends on the school. The more conservative ones (like mine) won't have you drawing nudes; you'll be looking at people in flesh-colored leotards. You may have to take an anatomy class though. Mom says that she learned as much in that class as she did in the figure drawing class. She also said the best way to get through the figure drawing class was to take on the attitude that the masters had: this is an object of beauty, not lust and sex.

It is and I was drooling and spazzing out the whole time lol
Yes, I totally agree with you on that. They were just trying to capture the beauty of the human body as an art and a learning tool, not for *ahem* other purposes.
I know, but there weren't as many in that area and she was used to it by then lol XDD
I don't know about the school I'm going to. I'll have to look into it. I am getting a scholarship though so I should be like, "I'LL DRAW ANYTHING FOR THE 2 GRAND! WHAT DO YOU WANT?!"

I remember the first time I went to the Louvre and saw one of the famous pieces close up and personal. I literally gasped. I had seen this work in advertising and books but it's sooo different when you see the real thing.
Yes. Unfortunately, there are many artists nowadays who can't seem to tell the difference between the two purposes =__= it makes me sad how much Satan influences others (even if it's just a tiny bit)
LOL
If you have a chance to make a campus visit, go to their art gallery (where their student art is) and the art department. That will give you an idea of what kind of courses they teach and what their requirements are (for example, at my school, you'll see landscapes, portraits, abstract art, graphic design, still life, sculpture but absolutely no nudes.)

I know! I did that when I saw George Seurat's Afternoon on....ah crap I cant think of the title and I'm too lazy to look it up lol It's the pointalism piece of all the people in the park and I loved seeing it in person lol
Yes, unfortunately there are artists who get the two confused.
They didn't have much of that stuff so I think I'm good lol

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte? It is amazing! Sometimes when I see it, though, I think of _Ferris Beuller's Day Off_ (yes I'm old) and how they saw that in the museum.
Unfortunately.
Well then. Good!

Yay! I got it right!
It is a fun movie (which is why I kinda pay homage to it in my FFN version of SAR...I had an explanation chapter in-between Ch. 15 and 16 and when it no longer was needed I had to add a note to move on to the next chapter and not read the explanation chapter. So I made it like the end of the movie after the credits) If you'd like to see, it's only a few lines (and will never be here on dA...I had started posting this story here later than I did on FFN) [link]

LOL Exactly, I imagined him with that face right there. I just wanted to let my readers know what had happened and FFN has very strict rules about what type of updates/postings are allowed. My beta-reader says it was the perfect compromise/go-around for the rules.

I've just recently found out that my ancestors come from Germany and Prussia, so I now feel a little bit of kinship to them.
LOL I sometimes do that in class when no one answers my question. "Commas. What are they used for? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller."

Well, that's b/c from the teacher's POV, the students look like they did in the movie.

I've always wondered about our bodies, we have mass/bulk to our bodies (meaning they're wide-ish but not fat). If height isn't a German feature, I wonder where our family's tallness comes from...

And yeah, I'm not a ball, I'm just wider than the average girl XDD
