Beyonce tutorialfanart artistPortraitGraphite pencil drawingfredrik eriksson170g A4I was asked to do a tutorial. That is a scary thing because then you have to analyze your own process. This Will probably not be a good tutorial, but I can give you some pointers.step 1 the grid. I do this to save time. But it takes time to do? You ask?It takes more time to get it wrong, erase and remake.so I see it as an investment.step 2 I like to think of myself as a printer. You start in the upper corner and work yourself down.why not start with the eyes? When I jump around all over the picture I tend to miss some details.why do I work from the right to the left? Because I am left handed. I work with each square until I think that it is finished.Β The tools:

thank you for a tutorial, Fredrik!and what is it - the 1st one on the right of erases? Can you please tell more about how you used graphite stick in this(or any other) drawing ?

The first one from the left is an eraser pen! Perfect for making hair. I used it to create gandalfs beard. The sharp tool in the middle is used for making hair and some effects on clothes. It was not used on this drawing. The little graphic stick is a time saver. It is used to make large blocks of darkness. In this drawing I used it on the hair and the dark shading on right side of her face.thank you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been looking forward to this! I love your comment about thinking of yourself as a printer so that you catch all the details...I SO get that! This will I think give me a little confidence with my own work as I'm doing a very similar method to you (although digitally). I'm in the process of painting a leopard at the moment and if it wasn't for left to right (yep I'm a righty) minute scanning for each tiny detail, I think I would end up leaving small but vital parts out! Although I'm an 'oldie' I've only been painting for two years, teaching myself along the way, so your advise is really taken on board and cherished! It's brilliant that someone as talented as you has taken time out to share your method...so one more time - thank you

Thank you very much for your kind words! I am glad that you like it. I was not sure that I had anything new to offer you. Cause after all, as artists we take advice here Β and there and bend them to fit in with our own style. But I think that if Iwas trying to say it all in one word! It would be structure.thank you for listening!
