I need help. I already know how to format and doujin and how to draw/ink rather well my problem is transforming my ideas into panel art. I know it takes time to get the hang of it, but my mind works around anime and not manga. So I am wondering if anyone has any tips when it comes to formatting a story in to the manga format and not getting frustrated/confused.Β

try not to put too many panels on one page,Β Β unless you think it works better that way.Β Β Clustering it will make it harder for your reader to read the comic as well as it will feel like its rush.Β take your time.Β And work with the flow.

It might help to read the section about paneling in Mark Crilley's Mastering Manga, or other sources about making comics. The more important the scene, the bigger the panel, and the shape of the panels should fit the subject. A fight scene might use a lot of dramatic angles, but a couple characters talking would probably fit better in squares or rectangles. I think looking at a lot of manga would help you get used to feeling how the story flows across the page, and then try using thatwith your own story.

Well, if you start off with a storyboard for each panel and add in panel movement and dialogue, you'll see that it makes your story pace a little and once you feel that's enough storyboard dialogue, you stop and put what you have for those panels as page one and keep doing that. It's kind of how the movie and possibly anime industry does it but they just have a more lively result. You should check these tuts to see how to make said script: fav.me/d5s0m6g crispy-gypsy.deviantart.com/ar⦠fav.me/d1shct0

Alright. Well another way of doing this is actually roleplaying the characters with a partner. You'll get dialogue, action and the experience all at once.

Mmh-hm and if you wanna have it be dialogue you like, you can make a script with the dialogue of the characters you want to do and do a fill-in-the-blank on characters you want the other person to be and see what you like about it.

I draw a lot form different fandoms but I wanted to create a comic on Kirby or Meta Knight that is some-what based on the anime they both were in (it is a child's show so I don't think many have watched it)

Oh, OK. Well, One way to find out if anyone has is make a journal for finding a RP partner that knows the series pretty well or find ask accounts on either here or Tumblr of said characters and they're usually really nice and will help you if you got to know them better and build the relationship a little.

Well, now... I'd say this should surely help when I finally feel ready to start writing (also drawing) Gaiden Chain, X-Trope, and Garlic Powder, among others.
Excellent!

I'm really messy with m sketches so that's why I do that.
As for that other thing, I'm pretty committed, once I commit, I like to see all the way through. Plus, say I start a doujin/comic and I post a couple pages and a lot of people like it and comment on it that usually motivates me to finish it! ^_^
if you send a storyboard did you want me to give you pointers?

for the panels be sure to make important stuff in bigger boxes and smaller stuff in small boxes. For example: Small panel of Character turning a dark corner, big panel of scary monster standing right there! (lol I don't know why the scary story...)
Another Example: Small panel of character grabbing another characters hands, big panel of them saying "I love you" (fangirl squees ensue)
As far as pages go, I'm no good at doing the right amount. for the Naruto one, I think I did 12, but there have been other stories I did that ended up being 19-40 pages long depending on the story.
I would say generally keep it in the 19-25 pages range.

Sorry for the late reply but thanks for the advice! I think I get the gist of the panel thing right now. And I'm keeping it to a 5-7 each page, like you suggested! XD I am not going for dividing lines of half a cm or a cm though, just a plain line that differs between panels. Is that okay?
Oh, and it's a chapter comic, so I think your advice really helps in case I get overboard. .///.
Again, THANKS!

Lovely tutorial; very helpful <3
But sadly I don't have access to any form of scanner or Photoshop T-T
I suppose I'll just have to stick to using my camera and Gimp for now until I can get better resources.

you could always use a scanner at fed ex, if there's one near you that is. ^_^

Ah, that's a good idea. But to be honest I think I'll wait until I can afford my own scanner. At least then I can improve my manga-art until then, and there's some advantages to having my own ^^
