The idea of these worker guys approaching your teenage-pokemon-trainer-character (especially the girl trainer) in a dark, creepy cave is just.. creepyAlso brings up the notion (in-game) that yeah, you can use repels to keep the pokemon away, but not the other trainers. ALSO makes me think of how when another trainer sees you, you have to battle them. You can't run away from them either, which is pretty funny
