Hello everyone! Time for another of my shinies
. This time I would like to share my rendition of a Moonstone. Moonstones are wonderful and magical things, and I have spent lots of time admiring their shiny magical goodness while studying the plentiful reference. The moonstone has been suggested to me by a fellow crystal lover, and I just had to paint one.. so fascinating! Remember, if you have suggestions of your own, I'll definitely take a look at them. For the newcomers - I begun painting crystals/gemstones/minerals as an exercise and a way to clear my head and eyes between other projects, but over time it has developed into a passion

My first reaction was pretty much "Yeah, no way the camera caught that sheen so nicel- ... ... that's a painting, isn't it."
Bit late to the party, probably, but this showed up in my deviantArt suggestions, and I never pass up a chance to ogle some shiny things. So, nice job! Love the way you really got that iridescence underneath the surface where it belongs. Great colors, too, and it's got a nice, subtle texture to it.
If you're ever looking for more pretty stones to draw, may I suggest Labradorite if you haven't tried that yet? Same basic concept, very distinctive look, and the iridescence can have pretty much every color of the rainbow, and sometimes all of them at once.

My sibling introduced moonstones to me as an alternative for opals and I was directly sold. You also have a cheap variation of it (a labratorium made stone) but I forgot its name. Now I carry both gems in my wallet.

I have always wanted to start a gemstone/crystal collection, but unfortunately I have no space for it and it's a costly hobby.. So I'm left with painting them myself

I use whatever I can get my hands on. Photos, stock from mineral companies/ mines, the very few stones I actually have. I tend to gather large folder on each of the gems/minerals, then study it thoroughly and create my own version as a result.

lol this looks so real! i was browsing for a moonstone for an addition to a tattoo and fell in love with this find out it was a painting! that's amazingly realistic!
