Description Contrapposto
Torso made from basalt lava

I do like the silky surface of the basalt lava. It is extremely well suited for the human body. In the sunlight the cristals are shining from the little hollows.

About 60 cm high
Finished 7/2012

Unfortunately DA is facing a problem with new deviations not showing properly. See [link] . Therefore I uploaded the pictures in a smaller size, that does open up without problems. You may use the download option to see the shot in full size! Enjoy!

Thanks, Tim. It really is fun material. I like it a lot, especially for the fuman body. The surface does not look cold as usually with stone.
Stay well!
btw: I like your climbing picture!

This is beautiful. But I could imagine it's much better in person. Some things just don't translate there full beauty in a photograph.

Thanks, Marlene! YouΒ΄re right. Especially with sculpture: you have to touch them to feel the materials and volumes and curves.
I will upload a couple more shots from closer. Anyway, one cannot convey the feel of the basalt lava.
Stay well!

Thanks for the flowers, Ricardo!
Actually it took quite a while to decide, what of sculpture I was going to do with this piece. The holes are rather large (there is much finer stuff on the market of this stone). So, it had something with rather reduced with respect to details, but it needed interesting dynamics. So, I ended up with this. ... and IΒ΄m quite happy with it.
Stay well!

This is lovely Michael, I especially like the uptilt of the left hip and from the pose one can even imagine the continuation of the arms. Do you find working in stone very different from working in wood? Its something else I'd like to try. :>

Thanks, Claire! Actually, quite a difference: dusty loud, hard work. But I love it. It is by far not as sensual as working wood, where you have always a sharp chisel and always nice grains and so on. With stone you only get the feeling of the material optices at the very end! But .... give it a go!
