How refreshing the breeze is
in this alien world. Salt and
fish may be in the air but
it is pleasant to breathe.
Rugged men work the docks,
hauling their catch from the depleted
waters. Serene and natural,
the landscape holds me in awe.

Morning, noon, evening and
night, they are all the same
in this strange place. The sun
is jealous of the night and
refuses to let her reign.
I cannot sleep. How could I
sleep when there is so much
to behold. Odd place.

Salmon choke the streams
and rivers. Mating is put on
hold while I reel them in. No trout
could compare in size. Towering mountain
that I conquer. You looked
only a hill from the sky,
Barometer. Blue horizon meets
the sea, home so far away.

Alaska, where is your
bite? I stride mockingly in
my light summer garb. This is your
oyster, I have found your paradise.
Natives sweat but you hold
comfort for the interloper.
I must leave too soon, I haven’t
played enough. Farewell for now: Kodiak.
