Description Poor whale boy. Forced to forsake the ocean for his one true love: churros. You see churros can only survive on land. He treads with a heavy heart having made such a sacrifice in the name of deliciousness... Ok seriously I think Iā€™m slowly starting to lose it. I made this at work and got a few really awkward stares from the coworkers who actually bothered to acknowledge the existence of interns.

Gennady, you've got mad genious. When you get lots of money for it, you should give me some (sponsor me) so I don't have to do anything anymore.

I was looking at the preview and was like,"Does that say Angst Whale Spirit?" Ah, whatever though. I like the backround with the swirly sky and Whale Boy is adorable.

Entirely random but it's still funny. It's like the Lion King....with whales...and churros.

Well, uh, no ambiguity here. The churro, the young lass of a whale, the..... big...whale.... in the background, with appropriate name tag. Well, on that end, I cannot say anything worthy of a critique. The sugary crispiness of the churro, mixed with cetacean goodness, is alls that I can stand; me Ahab blood be a'boilin' to a fever pitch, which is giving rise to a smell akin to a chowder of sorts.

I like how the big kahuna whale in the background has the faded lines to add to the atmospheric perspective. The lines and shapes are, as always, Gennady-esque, with those little curves and bends that make the whole thing very appealing. The facial expressions give it that extra something, reserved and yet whimsically about to break the mental backs of those that will view this cetaceous bit of artwork. Everything here has a nice, bright quality about it, without needing any shading or heavy PS filtering to make the whole thing come out with the depth that it has.

I have to agree with one of the previous comments about the logistics of having a baleened organism's ability to properly enjoy a crispy churro. However, I herd through various sources that one UCLA professor, a pretty well known name in cetacean studies, has a part baleen/part odontocete (toothed) specimen that was extracted from Pacific Palisades a few years back. They were breaking ground for homes, and low and behold, a full whale specimen in pretty good shape, a complete odontocete/mystecete specimen (more than likely, the original archetype cetacean), a rare find, with a dental matrix of teeth and baleen, for all to see..... that is, until the bulldozers ran it over. It's in pieces now, but enough is left to take measurements and identifications. Unfortunately, the professor in question has it locked away in a warehouse somewhere in a ghetto portion of LA, and he's not letting anybody see it. That is, until he or one of his grad students writes the definitive paper on it.

So yes, conspiracies and churros abound for whales. They're a dangerous lot, these cetaceans.

i really like how you diffused the colours in the background, it gives it a great sense of depth. the ancient whale spirit and the sky behind it are my favourite part of this picture.

the water coming out of whale boy's blow hole is a really nice touch.

oh yeah, it's also totally hilarious. great job.

XD awkward stares probably just make this better. It's a charming concept, if perhaps a little hard to understand in the detail. The portrayal of the whale spirit is genius though - fabulous clouds and stuff. Only thing that maybe lets it down is writing 'spirit' on his head - the annotations are great and kitschy, but I think we can sorta guess what the whale spirit is.
