It was a gloomy day, with grey stormclouds looming overhead, and yet Crescent found herself wandering about. She was making her way to a hill at the edge of Ponyville where she and her two best friends would normally hang out. When she got halfway up, something just didn't feel right. Her friends were there, but they looked like they were arguing. Crescent stopped to avoid drawing attention to herself.

"You can't just keep avoiding this!" Midnight shouted. Avoiding what? Cres wondered.

"I'll handle this how I please," Eclipse said in a snide voice, "or what would you rather me do?"

"I don't know, maybe stop leading her on and be honest with her?" Are they talking about me? Crescent was starting to regret having come here.

"I am not leading her on! I was hoping she would get the hint much sooner. It's just a silly crush, she'll get over it."

"Eclipse, do you realize how much she likes you, how long she's liked you? She's not going to give up easily."

"Well she needs to understand that some things are not worth chasing. I am not... romantically interested in her." By this point, Crescent was absolutely sure that they were talking about her, and every word out of Eclipse's mouth stung.

"Then you need to tell her that! You say she needs to get a hint and get over it, but you're not doing anything to stop it! The more you wait, the more it's going to hurt her." Midnight's normally wavy magic aura was crackling with buzzing, angry electricity.

"She's... she's magically strong, but emotionally fragile. I fear what she might do when she finds out. And truthfully, I'd rather not pursue a relationship with her just to maintain her feelings, have it fall apart, and end up losing one of my only friends."

"Well you just might, and no wonder you barely have any friends as it is, because you're being a real shitty one yourself!" Midnight stamped her hoof and a jolt of magic shot out of her horn as she swung her head, hitting a nearby tree with a sound like crashing thunder. Eclipse was startled into silence, and Crescent stood frozen to the spot, her legs quaking and tears threatening to form in her eyes. None of them made a move or said anything for a while until Midnight breathed out a quiet, "Sometimes I wish we'd never met you, Eclipse." At that, Crescent choked back a cry and dashed off to go back home. She'd made a horrible mistake of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now she felt like her heart had been shattered.

This is a scene I've been wanting to write for a while, the concept of how Crescent finds out about Eclipse not reciprocating her feelings. A while back I was originally going to have him tell her directly, but I feel like it'd be more dramatic if Cres found out in a way she wasn't supposed to, by eavesdropping on a fight between him and Midnight. This would probably be the turning point where the trio's friendship becomes rocky. I might've mentioned before that Midnight has very keen hearing, so there's a chance she may have heard Crescent trying not to cry... Did she or didn't she? Hm...

Now here's the thing, they kind of have a love triangle situation going on. Crescent has a huge crush on Eclipse, which is established. Little does she know, Midnight kind of has feelings for her, though she tries to suppress them. Eclipse's situation is more complicated. He's kind of attracted to Midnight because they're both intellectuals and he finds her more mature than Crescent, and he's tried to flirt with her a couple times but she kind of can't stand his snobby tendencies. Middy was never really a huge fan of him to begin with.

So yeah, spicy drama unicorns.
