   Step Two: the complete treatment using water based mediums on Slice Two: This World is not My Home. On top of the foundation (Mauve gouache, Iris Blue dye), I went in and lite areas with an Ice Blue (dye), and started contrasting oranges with greens. The Mauve under-painting is still there, but it becomes the foundation upon which the other color is building on, so, really, it's the combination of both colors that gives the character depth. On the hair, it's a Juniper Blue base with an Ice Green tint. The background is primarily Yellow Orange with a light wash of Sunset Orange (dye, really diluted), streaked with the Ice Blue (about 8 layers). The color is brushed in very thin layers, building the intensity not through thickness, but from shade upon shade of tinting.

I added another three passes of black ink wash to the skin, working on defining dimension with values. I may apply another two layers before going in with the colored pencils. We'll see.

   The final stage will be the Prisma color, which will help smooth and shape the entire piece. That will be the place where all the color is defined, continuing to explore textures, and atmosphere, as well as putting the character into a context. Colors will become sharper, more intense, and start to create "zones" of visual interest, depending on their contrast or blend.

   One of the future challenges of this image will be; how to "light up" the background...
