Grandus unloading his crew

The original Grandus defined the term "brickformer" and transformed literally onto his stomach forming a base. While perusing ebay for megazords I stumbled upon a listing for the "LARGEST MEGAZORD", the "Super Train Megazord" from (checks google...) Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. Right away the wheels start spinning since you don see too many BIG Transformers anymore and he needed a suiting character.

With a mostly black motif already and yellow antennae it clicked pretty quickly that he could easily be turned into Grandus (of the Battlestars fame). It got even cooler when I discovered the train had little storage compartments (meant for the smaller megazord from Lightspeed rescue) that could fit scout class figures. The homage continued!

So picked up this bad boy from FreedomGundam off of Cybertorn.ca for $35 at TFcon and lemme tell ya, $$ well spent. The mold alone is pretty fun and huuuge (18'' high in robot mode...4 ft long in train mode).

All that was done to him really was repainting all the stripes on the 2-5 trains red instead of their respective ranger colours, replaced the LSR symbols with Autobot insignias, filled in the eyes with putty and painted it blue, and finally painted the head black.

Easy breezy, and a nice addition to the collection as Grandus is one character that I doubt will ever be redone, Though Derrick J Wyatt did suprise me by throwing him into the Transformers Animated universe...too bad he'll suffer the fate of many Animated characters and not get a toy.
