Description This was actually taken in a hurry and I don't know how it turned out so well

As I was waiting for my train to work, a freight train had to pass first. I noticed from a distance that it was pulled by two of these old HLD 55 Diesel Locomotives. I don't see them much around here, as most of the freight trains passing Kortrijk are pulled by either electric locomotives or more modern diesel locomotives. These HLD 55's are pretty old, being from the early 60s. I think they're pretty much one of the oldest rolling stock  running on Belgian rails.

I still don't know how I took this pic with just my smartphone, as it takes at least half a second after I tapped the screen until it actually takes the picture. This could actually be a neat wallpaper for your desktop

Nice to see 5535 back out again, the last time I saw her she was in maintenance at the Kinkempois depot.

But they're very much a dying breed now - ever since Infrabel has taken on the Series 77, the 55's days seem to be numbered.  Apparently, time's already running out for the last "Blue Diesels", 5515, 5519 and 5529...

If you're interested, the one behind the 5535 is the 5532.
and that same day on the way back, the P8901 (the train I take from Oudenaarde to Kortrijk) are usually HLE18s, but was for some reason a HLE21 , 2139 to be exact, on last Friday and Monday. Pretty unique as far as I know, as I've been taking this train since February and I've never seen those on this line.

Pretty sure it's the strike.  That threw out a lot of the schedules, as many of them are diagrams that run all over the country, often originating in such depots as Vorst (Brussel-Zuid Formatie), Schaarbeek, Ronet, Kinkempois, La Louvière, Tournai, Mons and Charleroi.

The 7901/8901 pair originate out of the Kortrijk depot in the morning, but it's likely the strikes elsewhere meant that not enough 18s were in the bundle to ensure services according to their normal schedules.

We had the same over here, with AM96s, HLE 27s and Desiro's riding diagrams normally not served by them...

Yeah, I thought it was because of that. I can actually feel the difference between a train being pulled by a HLE18 or a HLE2 now lol

I also made this video last week, suddenly the train stopped, and half of the lights were out, not even the ventilation system was on, and it was so quiet. So quiet in fact that it was uncomfortable, you didn't hear a thing, and then it went moving again

I was all alone in there as well, just a solid minute of pure silence, sadly I onyl filmed the part where it was geting into action again and my jacket made some noise. But i had no idea an active train could be so silent

They can.  It's always a bit eerie.
