Description CT-19 Qamata

“No one is exactly sure of when the Qamata design was conceived or first came on line but most suspect it was part of the Lavetier Dynasy. Even if it was a Lavetier design we have retained it for the express purpose of monitoring the affairs of our home country and our close neighbors. The latter is really just to be sure they are not Anarch-influenced. The former is because the survivors of the Lavetier Dynasty have become insurgents under the name of the Sons of the Pale Sea. ” - Commodore Isaiah Frederick Singleton

Overview
Every armed force that has existed has relied on its ability to gather information in a manner that is acceptably safe and as accurate as is possible. The Commonwealth is no different, in that regard with one exception, there is a social issue with obscuring one’s deeds. The more renown a military officer has for the number of missions and the way in which they are completed often matches their rise or fall through the ranks. The martial culture of the Commonwealth causes the act of gathering intelligence to be somewhat looked down upon because obviously those who specialize in intelligence gathering are even better at covering their tracks which makes it hard to gauge their successes or failures in a true light. This creates an obvious career conundrum as those with the talents for the black ops whom are ambitious find that there is a sort of glass ceiling on the profession that is partially fueled by lingering paranoia of the assassinations carried out by the Lavetier Dynasty to silence critics, opposition and resistance leaders. The integration of intelligence assets in the 18th fleet, has begun to break down this barrier as other fleet commands watch to see if this localized experiment is worth the time and resources allotted to it.

The Qamata’s actual design date is largely unknown but it is clear that the vessel in its current form utilizes the rejected “long hull” version of the Meroe Torpedo Sloop’s design. The specific details of the vessel’s internal layout are shrouded in secrecy. It often takes a information disclosure request filed with the government upwards if six years before one can find out if a Qamata has visited a given planetary region on a given day.  What is known is that the Quamata is a top end surveillance vessel that some official sources suggest is capable of spotting and reading the text of a newspaper held by a person near a ground floor window on the shady side of a building from extra-planetary orbit as clearly as if the ship were just few miles away. Though some redacted but unclassified documents it is also suggested that the vessel plays a key role in rooting out Lavetier sympathizers and is critical in the early warning system for the nation. Its crews are recruited from a select portion of the Navy, Armed forces and a handful of civilian’s specialists. All of these personnel are as far as anyone knows serving on other commands according to record but are actually assigned to surveillance vessels and receive special training that is above and beyond the normal expected skill set of the rank and file navy. These individuals of course when asked or coerced will say they are assigned to the false assignment which makes the name of the vessel rather appropriate. The vessel is named after Qamata who is the top deity of Xhosa people and the son of Thixo, It is said that the people do not bother him to ask of his attributes, and he does not bother to reveal them.  Most agree that if there ever was a deity that represented subterfuge it would have been Qamata.
One of the key features of the Qamata is that it bears two pairs of attachment points for service modules that augment the ship’s already impressive surveillance capabilities allowing it more versatility than most combat vessels. In the image included with this document the depiction of the Qamata shows it with a set of general service modules attached in the two operations slots. The GSM gives the Qamata the ability to analyze in detail all things the vessel sees and acts as an laboratory module. The GM gives the crew greater onboard ability to break encryption, and tap into communications as well as boosting the sensor range and detection capabilities of the craft by a total of 25%. Four other modules are known to exist as options for the Qamata, and the following information is partially conjectural because the Military keeps the exact natures of the modules shrouded in secrecy.

Nuclear, Biological & Chemical Warfare Module [A.] – There is little known of this module but it can be assumed this module is designed to counter NBC threats and or deliver them as the mission requires. Some sources also suggest it is able to deliver troops behind enemy lines to as well. No solid evidence of what this module actually does is available at this time.

Deep Reconnaissance Module [B.] – The deep reconnaissance module expands on what the Qamata already does. This module is rumored to also give the Qamata the ability to absorb incoming sensors and provide false sensor returns making the ship appear to be of foreign design and origin. Normally the craft could do this but it would only mimic commonwealth civilian vessels and rarely smaller warships; this module expands that to include much more convincing sensor shadows, false life signs and other additional deceptions including false IFF transpoder signals.

Electronic Warfare & Target Acquisition Module [C.] – The electronic warfare module is likely design specifically to counter or create varying forms of electronic interference to block enemy sensors, while neutralizing enemy attempts to do the same. Along with this it is suggested that the system can also light targets for friendly forces outside of the range of combat.

Theater Communications & Eavesdropping Module [D.] – As the name suggests this module which is the largest of all known modules (it uses all attachment points) is used for the purpose of either relaying Commonwealth communications or Intercepting and breaking the encryption on foreign/enemy transmissions. It is rumored that the systems in this module are so sensitive they can pick up spoken conversations aboard a target vessel simply by sensing the vibrations of sound against the target’s hull and internal structure.

It can be safely presumed the Qamata has many more module options beyond what is listed in this document as the vessel is very versatile and must stay ahead of the curve especially givent he current state of war with the Serian League.

Deployment (as of 92 AE)
Although the precise number of Qamata surveillance is unknown, though it is suspected there are at least ten of the vessels and they operate in every commonwealth sector and most likely with every fleet scale combat mission.

Noted Commands
Commodore Isaiah Frederick Singleton

Isaiah is somewhat of an oddity amongst Quamata Commanders because he is married. Qamata commanders are rarely attached too much of anyone in a way that could be used against them in a combat situation. As though this were not enough Isaiah just so happened to be married to the most famous Meroe Commander in Commonwealth history; Captain Miranda J. Singleton. The captain or note recently perished during the Commonwealth raid on a Serian Naval Yard. The two personality wise are exact opposites, where as she was a gambling sort The Commodore is more a person of hard facts and calculations. Captain Singleton was very outgoing while The Commodore was somewhat of a private individual who was not fond of parties and such. Somehow against all foreseeable odds the two were married for seven years and had no marriage problems despite the obvious opposite personalities and the natures of their opposing assignments. Most who know Isaiah often describe him as a consummate professional with a taciturn demeanor who is considered very demanding of his crews but quite fair about how he treats them. After his wife’s death Isaiah demanded to be permanently assigned to the 18th fleet under Staff-Admiral Duvalier. Once Isaiah was granted the request in honor of his wife he had his Qamata class vessel painted up in the colors of His Wife’s vessel and gave it the formal name ‘Old 346’s Revenge’. Since then, Isaiah is the only known Qamata class vessel captain known to have any ship-to-ship kills on his record, and he and his crew are the first to not only repel a boarding action but counter attack, board and capture an enemy vessel intact.
