Elric Merle was born into a lower/middle class family within Ravenna, so he wasn't stuck in a super lavish life, but neither was his life complete and utter turmoil because of the hardships of life. He's a rather normal kid, and the only particularly "strange" thing about him was that he had a fascination for reading books. It wasn't a problem, heck it was and still isn't ever a problem. The "problem" came up when he discovered, or rather finally realized, magic.

One day, he was probably around seven or so, he went out wandering on his own in one of the more dangerous areas for little kids. He ended up in the sights of a wolf looking for food and was in a heap of trouble, trying his best to run away. Thankfully, his elder brother, Desmond, had been within the area and, by relative accident, he saved Elric from the wolf using various spells. The spells awed the young and impressionable child in moments and since then he wanted to be a mage.

His parents, glad that he gained an interest in the magic arts (though less than fond of how it happened), gave him the books that his brother Desmond studied with. And he studied and attempted to use spells. The first couple of weeks, nothing happened. It was to be expected, he was JUST starting, and at such a young age. He took his time, attempting to study up on all of the magical practices. Once he was pretty sure he got it, a few years later, he attempted to take the aptitude test for the Mage Academy. He failed. Sure, the written segments were quite high up but his practical demonstration was... nonexistent. He couldn't cast a spell. Not even a basic incendiary spell... or a comedic puff of smoke.

Elric, ever the optimist, considered it a bad day for him and went back to studying and attempting to practice this time. However, as his "bad day" became weeks, then months, and even years, he still couldn't pull off a single spell. He even attempted to consult his brother and even random strangers that happened to know magic, none of them could really answer the problem. Whether they wanted to keep it a secret or they legitimately don't know, it was unknown. But Elric would continue to try, which lead him to attempting to join the Mage Academy though the test every chance he could get.

After about, say, four years worth of attempts at the aptitude test, his family all respectively came to an idea that could help Elric out. Archery. It was still a ranged skill. It isn't as inherently fancy as magic per say, but it was something that Elric could do. The young man was... less than thrilled with the notion, but gave it a shot anyway. But he only really did archery on the side, he still wanted to get into that academy and learn with the others. So for several years it was just him studying and practicing magic with some archery on the side with his father and brother. And now, hitting twenty-one years, he intends to give the Mage Academy's Test another shot.

Personality:

A bit naive, goofy, and a very kind guy, Elric, despite his situation, is a rather optimistic fellow. He has the tendency to look on the lighter side of the situation. That's what helped him still attempting to go into the practice of Magic and such. However hitting his 21st year, he is sort of getting concerned about his capabilities with the magical arts. But he's staying strong. On top of this optimism, however, is a bit of a geek. Elric's a huge fan of the magical arts and it shows. However his inability of showing that he could actually do any spells voids all credibility.

He's not a fan of sharp objects. Thanks to his run in with that wolf a long time ago he's also harbored a bit of a fear for wild animals. That's actually what prevents him from even attempting the other potential classes, bar Archery. he's always afraid of getting cut or something so he can get a little jittery at times.

- His Magic condition is hereditary, it's a super subordinate gene, so the chances of something like this was so low it isn't funny. okay it kind of is
- He's read a CRAPTON of books over the magical arts and he's great at understanding HOW magic works and what's best for what... he just... can't... cast spells.
