Description

Monster Bio

Height: 25 meters

Weight: 20,000 metric tons

History

Very much like Ebirah, Ganimes crabs are common sights in the monster kingdom. They spend most of their lives in the ocean, scavenging for food on the ocean floor. They will occasionally venture onto land but stay near the water when they do. While this usually restricts their land lubber activities to beaches, they can be found further inland in high humidity environments like swamps and jungles. While not particularly effective hunters, Ganimes do prey on monster nymphs and other animals too slow to escape their shuffling gait. They have been known to prey on humans, but they are not dedicated manhunters. Ganimes crabs are among the few smaller monsters which do not require radioactive food sources to survive but generate elevated levels of bio-radiation in their bodies. This, along with their small size and high rate of reproduction, makes them a food staple of the monster kingdom for any larger predators capable of cracking open their armored carapaces. Of all the prey animals in the monster kingdom Ganimes are the best tasting by a very wide margin, edging out even the ubiquitous Kamoebas. Their meat is too irradiated for human consumption, but that hasn’t stopped black market operations and some countries with weaker food and drug laws to attempt to process and sell it. Ganimes see widespread use as mind-controlled pack mules and living construction vehicles for Devonians and the Red Bamboo.

Personality

Ganimes crabs are simple-minded creatures but are more curious about their environment than their Ebirah cousins. The diminutive monster crabs are always examining objects in their environment, tasting for food and manipulating them with their pincers. This curiosity can be used against them – humans being pursued by a Ganimes crab can distract the monster with loud noises and bright lights. Ganimes will challenge encroaching monsters with an intimidation display if they feel threatened. This usually works to ward off any similarly sized monsters, but it is utterly futile when deployed against larger monsters like Godzilla. For reasons unknown to G-Force, Ganimes crabs are enamored with Scylla and will follow her around for hours whenever she crosses paths with the smaller crustaceans. She doesn’t seem to mind, until their numbers grow too large.

Powers/Abilities

Spiked Shell: The shell of Ganimes crabs sport many hardened spikes along their shells. In addition to the resistance to damage the shell affords, the spikes are useful deterrents against would-be predators. Many monsters will brake the spiky carapace regardless; Ganimes meat is just that tasty.

Claws: The Ganimes’s two claws are able to delicately manipulate objects and pick at edible morsels of food, but they are effective weapons against monsters around their size. A pinch from a Danimes crab can draw blood from weaker monsters. For larger ones like Godzilla, it is still painful to be pinched by one. Their claws can be used as battering rams capable of toppling buildings, but they rarely attack cities. Instead, males wield their claws against other males during mating season.

Retractable Head: Instead of being locked in place like ordinary crabs, Ganimes's head is situated on a long, muscular neck which can stretch nearly five times its resting length. When threatened, the neck pulls Ganimes's head in close against its body. And if enough of its limbs are lost in battle or to hungry predators, Ganimes can snap its shell closed entirely, shearing off any remaining limbs to protect its body until the danger passes. This is far from a perfect defense, and the limbless Ganimes are even more vulnerable to predation, but they can subsist as filter feeders for years until their legs grow back.

Foamy Spit: This doesn't seem to have any special effect on Ganimes's enemies, though the consensus is that it's still kinda gross.
