Description Our Lorikeets are doing better this year.  I think they are finally getting the hang of it!  I actually had three Lorikeets interact with me; two actually climb on me, and I didn't have any food for them!  This, my friends, is a major breakthrough for these birds.  This exhibit has only been open a couple of years now and the birds haven't quite gotten used to human interaction.  It looks like they may have mastered it now.  One guy in particular was fascinated with either my camera or my clothes; I couldn't determine which.  But he was so curious that he had to come down to see for himself.  He was joined by another who, in typical Lorikeet fashion, latched onto my earring and wouldn't let go!    I believe this is my little friendly visitor who was posing so nicely for me before he came to visit.  Later on, I had an interesting interaction with the scarlet variety.  Photos on him to come.

Lorikeets are VERY pretty birds!  Very noisy also!  They like to vocalize and can be very curious!  They are quite a delight, as this little chap was this day!  One of my favorite birds!

Great shot. So cute. We have them in our garden every day feeding from the natives. They are beautiful but can be noisy . They become very trusting when they get to know you. And often just sit on our verandah rail & chatter . Some even bring their babies to meet us. These are living in the wild.

Ah, you must live in the land down under? How I envy you these guys as verandah visitors!  I would so love that!  I absolutely adore these guys!  How sweet to know that they trust you enough to bring their babies back to meet you!!! Steals the heart!

Yes we do live in the north of the land down under - on an island, so there are a lot around but we seem to have about four families who have claimed us

Oh how marvelous!!!!  Tell me, do they ever get on your nerves?  I mean, I do realize they are rather noisy.  Plus, it seems to me that if they are comfortable with you, do they land on you when you're outside?  I'm really curious because I've never known someone who has been claimed by one of these birds.  And I personally love them!

Daww lorikeets!
I miss visiting the loris whenever I visit the Oregon Zoo. I'm hoping they're doing well in Florida. All the birds went to the same place together which is nice.
Socializing with baby birds is the best! Though sometime they don't really fear people, instead they are seen as a giant chew toy, so then you get the joy of teaching them that fingers aren't food!

I believe that the friendlier of these guys are the ones born here last year.  I was quite surprised that one actually singled me out and came over to me, flew to me and began to investigate and chew buttons, etc.  He climbed on my finger quite well and we had a small chat, while his buddy hung on to my earring.

Our zoo had gotten rid of the Lorikeet exhibit too but they brought it back!  I was so happy that they did.  I was traveling to Cincinnati to see them; I missed them so much.  Now that our birds are getting the hang of it, it's going to be more fun!
