Description illustration for a new fashion boutique opening soon called Latinova. check out www.latinova.com in a few days (it's not up just yet).

sorry for the huge watermarks, but this was an important commissioned piece ^^

technical specs since i get asked this a lot...
- i use adobe photoshop CS2 + a wacom intuos3 8x6 tablet.
- i draw the lineart in pencil, scan it in, clean it up a bit, then colour it entirely on the computer.
- the texture technique is made by manipulating photographs of rust/corkboard/etc, usually from my own stock collection.
- i won't be making a tutorial, because i'd rather people didn't blatantly copy me. if people are inspired by my work i'd appreciate it much more if they incorporated their own styles and put their own spin on it, rather than just copied what i do ^^
- also, i used a reference from a pose i found on a DA stock site, but i can't remember the link - if the pose looks like a photo of yours, drop me a note and i'll be glad to link you.

critique discouraged because i am finished~

thank you! yes, the whole 'digital-yet-traditional' look is kind of a reaction on my part against slick vector art styles but that's just me being all weird, haha. i should probably stick to drawing what sells!

thank you so much! i try to make my diginal work look a little 'less' computer made and a little more 'handmade'... however... i also like the option of being able to 'undo' things with the click of a button. haha. im such a cheater X3

I am totally into your beachy motif's! I really love her pose! That flower is a fantastic touch and I totally love the stringy flow of her hair! The pattern on her bikini and the little kinks in the bracelets are such awesome touches! I really love the texture of the palm tree. Even if the background is fairly simple, I think it adds so much atmosphere!

thanks! i had to keep the bg REAL simple because it was originally going to be a flier, and i had to put text everywhere... then after i'd drawn it the brief was changed to a postcard... and by then it was too late to change it personally i'm getting a bit sick of beach themes, i need to try something new, haha.

awww thanks ZamsZams~ i don't really use noise/filters, just the layer properties (soft light/hard light/ etc) or is that all the same thing? i do not know my photoshop well enough

guava In reply to zambicandy [2006-05-01 08:11:24 +0000 UTC]

hahah i don't even know myself i take photos of cool things, like stones and patterns, then i overlay them into my pictuahs to make them go ZIING without having to do all of that time-consuming CG stuff, haha.

This is great! I love the classic 50's-girl touch it has to it. It's really gorgeous. I could go on and on, but verbose and repetitious "omgomgomg!!!!11one" sorta thing would just get old.

Chie like. Guava good. Do more! Yeah, I think that about sums it up.... XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

guava In reply to yanocchi [2006-04-02 05:55:56 +0000 UTC]

i'm glad you saw a glimmer of the 50's in it - the client wanted one of those "wish you were here!" kind of postcards, but i didn't know until after i had finished it! haha.

her hair is beautiful and i love the little folds in her cosie!

i love your textures, they're so original and it's like your own signature on your work ^________^

(also, the way you draw women i love the curvs and lips, your art really inspires me to try harder with my own ! )

guava In reply to elindor [2006-04-02 06:01:57 +0000 UTC]

awww.. i'm glad you picked up on the little details, like the folds in her swimsuit ( i haven't heard the word cosie in AGES X3 do you use the word 'togs' there too?).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elindor In reply to guava [2006-04-09 06:58:25 +0000 UTC]

hehe i think some people say 'swimming togs' for little boys cosies, but 'cosie' is the most used ^_______________^ what do you guys say?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

guava In reply to elindor [2006-04-10 06:03:26 +0000 UTC]

we dont use 'cosie' here much... mostly 'togs' for any gender, i think

i forgot to put the logo on the actual postcard though @_@

cbernie [2006-03-08 20:35:07 +0000 UTC]

I love the patterns you use on the clothing in your work - I'm not sure if you draw them by hand, but either way, they're all stylish and stuff. I also like the texture of the image itself, that kind of grainy look - it's always kind of a fun contrast with the crispness I associate with a blue sky, so it leaves kind of a neat atmosphere. :3 Oh, and the anatomy of the character and the detail of her hair are lovely. Oh, and the texture on the tree, too.

guava In reply to cbernie [2006-03-09 08:45:37 +0000 UTC]

thanks the patterns for the bikini are actually made up of the 'latinova' logo i made up, but forgot to put on

jasato [2006-03-08 05:07:14 +0000 UTC]

the texture kinda looks like parchment paper actually. My gf thinks it's like watercolors.

Either or, I love the texture. I've noticed that in a good portion of your recent works. Now that I think about it, it kinda gives it a sort of "rustic" feel...which is rather, nostolgic, I guess. (if I spelled the word right...heh)

how's your new job by the way?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

guava In reply to jasato [2006-03-09 08:48:09 +0000 UTC]

yes, there seems to be a running debate as to what it looks like exactly, haha. i think watercolours would 'bleed' more, and i'd say it looks more like parchment or tissue paper, hehe. some people didn't like it at first, but i didn't care coz i wasn't drawing for them

jasato In reply to guava [2006-03-10 01:36:46 +0000 UTC]

*laugh* that sounds like it. Either or, I like it. Like I said, it kinda gives it a sort of "rustic" or something feel or another...rather nostalgic, really
