Description This is a windows xp visual style that is a combination of FrankenBerries windwos 7 visual style and another Windows 7 visual style(not sure who- I got the start buttons from it) and has the best features from both themes.

1. To use this theme, drag the msstyle to C:\Windows\Resources and double click on Aero Vista.msstyles

2. You need to patch uxtheme.dll to use custom skins. Google it if you haven't already done so.

3. Only choose the blue theme and you only get the blue taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

If you want to have Windows 7 Iconized (Icon Only) Taskbar Feature in Windows XP: [link]

Please mention any bugs, changes, or improvements in the comments.

First of all you need XP

Second of all, did you patch uxtheme like it says in the description

Ok so with all that said, 2 Q's:

[link]

Is the cutting off of the start button intentional?

and I didn't notice this in your ss but I now see its there. Whats with the vertical bar next to the time on the far right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

haran-hockey In reply to k3yb04rdc4t [2009-05-24 03:01:23 +0000 UTC]

alrite - glad you finally got everything working. Also, yes both are intentional. First the rectangle on the right is actually a feature of Windows 7 which shows the desktop but does nothing on XP - its just tehre to imitate Windows 7. Also, resize your taskbar by first unchecking "Lock the taskbar" when you right click the taskbar and make it like the picture on this page is.

k3yb04rdc4t In reply to haran-hockey [2009-05-24 17:59:43 +0000 UTC]

ah right ok. I was asking about the start button because I usually pull my taskbar up cause I have so many windows open at a time, so with it on a single line it makes sense for it to be cut off.

I just wanted to know if you knew about it =]

k3yb04rdc4t [2009-05-22 17:35:44 +0000 UTC]

In addition. Could it be possible that a registry entry has been changed?
And Ive also noticed there is a uxtheme.dll in the c:\windows folder. Is that of any significance?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

haran-hockey In reply to k3yb04rdc4t [2009-05-22 20:05:41 +0000 UTC]

uxtheme.dll should be in the C:\Windows\System32 folder, NOT the Windows folder. Check to see if there is a uxtheme.dll file in C:\Windows\System32 folder and if there is, delete the one that's in the C:\Windows folder. If not, then move it to the System32 folder. If this still doesn't work, you might have to repair install Windows XP using the XP CD which won't delete any files so don't worry. It'll just fix system files. There is also another way but I can't remember what it was. Try asking your question at winmatrix.com.

Well I figured out what was wrong. (for anyone that googles this and needs a solution)
Apart from me not rebooting when I first tried installing this, the problem laid with the uxtheme.dll file that was sitting in my windows folder....
No idea how that got there.

Anyway, you can't just remove/rename them in windows normally, you need to boot into safe mode, then rename+move it, reboot again then delete it. Why on earth I didn't think to go into safe mode in the first place is beyond me!

Before I did this next step I made sure that there wasn't a copy in the i386 folder or the dllcache folder. (I had replaced them using the XP recovery stuff)
I then replaced whatever version of the dll that was in my system32 folder with the original non-patched one (by renaming the one that was in there, and then immediately copying the original) and rebooted again (still in safe mode).

Came back into safe mode for the last time, and searched anything that was uxtheme.dll and deleted them all apart from the original one which I just put back in (I had loads which had been renamed to things like zzzzzzzzzzzzzuxtheme.dll )

Rebooted back in normal mode, and BAM, things work again. Tried the new theme again, and it worked

Thanks for your help dude

Oh, and the start menu isn't loaded, its the same theme as the taskbar (classic).

FYI I have the start menu setup as classic view, rather than having it as the XP view, not that that should make any difference.

no it shouldn't and ur images don't work anymore - it says it can't find them on the server. It's probable your uxtheme.dll. Did other custom themes work before you tried this one out becuase lots of other people used them too with no problem (including me). Try right clicking on my computer>roperties and then check if you're using xp sp2 or xp sp3. then find the right uxtheme.dll patch and patch it again.

ahh, stupid me, I buggered up the link code!:

Your theme not working:
[link]

Zune theme not working (after I tried your theme):
[link]

Well the only themes I used before I tried yours were Zune and Royale - Which are official M$ ones. I then tried yours and it stopped working, so I thought ok, lets go back to zune. BAM, didnt work
Im on SP3 and I downloaded the sp3 uxtheme.dll from here:
[link]

And I followed the instructions. I just checked the original uxtheme.dll version which I copied over from my system32 folder, and its indeed the same version as the patched one from that website v6.0.2900.5512 - so to my understanding that is the sp3 version.
I did also try copying the non patched uxtheme.dll back and it still didnt work

ok I'm not sure if this makes a difference but put the file you downloaded, (name.msstlye or whatever it's called) and make sure to put it in the C:\Windows\Resources\Themes folder. You had it in the Resources folder. Then double click the name.msstyle and click apply and then ok. Hopefully this will fix your problem. Also, if you want to change it to the Zune theme, don't go to the "Themes" tab in Display properties but go to the "Appearance" tab. Always go to the appearance tab to change a theme. The "themes" tab is kinda complicated and not many people actually use it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

k3yb04rdc4t In reply to haran-hockey [2009-05-22 17:23:56 +0000 UTC]

Ive put it in the themes folder, and still nothing. Applied it via the appearance tab, and still nothing.

I find it hard to understand why no one else has ever experienced this!

As a note, its also messed up my other themes (zune and royale) with the same problem.

I cant seem to get this to work

I followed the instructions and have patched the uxtheme.dll but the taskbar doesn't load like in the screenshot, it stays as a classic type theme but the top of windows do. Am I missing something?

Do the titlebars appear and everything, like the close, max ,min start menu and other stuff. Is it only the taskbar that doesn't appear.
